HP 5520 Product CX042A.  Error code CN33Q164DY flashing, light comes on but printer does not work.
Scanner quit working month ago.
This is a HP reconditioned printer I received from HP to replace a new printer I bought in 2013 that would
only print in black.  HP replaced the new printer with a HP reconditioned, which was not new, and I have not had it a year. it should still be under defect warranty and replaced.

Hello oconnep,

I see that you are having some issue with error codes on the printer.  Seeing that you beleive the printer is still under warranty, I suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

This could possibly be an issue with the Firmware in the printer.  If you would like to try one step before calling HP, I suggest making sure the printer power cable is connected directly to a wall outlet and NOT a power bar/strip.  Here is a document that uses as LaserJet printer as an example but it still shows the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.

Thank you for your time.

Your solution did not work.  I switched to a different outlet where the printer was the only thing plugged in.
The printer is still showing the error code and every light is blinking such as the question mark, the red x, etc.
I now own 3 HP printers, all purchased in a 3 year period, that don't work.  Would anyone at HP know what
this error code means?  I cannot find it anywhere on HP's website.

Hello again oconnep,

Sorry that you are still having issues with the printer showing error codes.

I suggest that you contact HP Total care by using the information I have provided in my first reply.

I spent hours unplugging and waiting, rebooting, uninstalling and reinstalling my printer. Finally I took out an ink cartridge and it gave me a black and white message on the screen telling me there was an error and to unplug and "replug"my computer. I unplugged it from the back and waited possibly 15 secs. I plugged it back in, and to my surprise IT WORKED! It wanted to print out an alignment page. Then it dawned on me. That was the last message I got from it when it conked out. I didn't read the alignment message, I had scanned one of my daughters drawings  instead of the alignment page and I guess I it sent it into a tailspin.

On September 16, 2014, I was sent a replacement A9J40A, serial # CN3821V1VH 05XT and put these numbers into the correct slots when asked to do so--and was told that the serial number did not exist. (case number 3007218627

After trying various online suggested procedures to fix my problem, I ended up chatting with online support regarding my HP ENVY 5530 e printer which  did not copy nor scan and only printed from HP Creations website.

After spending more than an hour with an HP agent, the error C4EBA341 flashed on the printer screen, the cartridges won't move one way or another and I am left with all lights flashing and another malfunctioning HP printer. I have owned  4 HP printers of one sort or another and they always end up not working after a year or so.

This time  my HP Care Pack Service Plan had run out 7 days prior to this malfunction and I ended up having to purchase  another model recommended--ENVY 5660 which is supposedly like the malfunctioned model in that it would accept the same cartridges --Instant Ink cartridges. I received a two month free instant ink deal and paid for another HP Care Pack Serviice; for three years this time and free shipping on the supposedly new $89.00 ENVY 5660--all to ease my frustration, i am sure.

I must say I am disappointed in any HP printer for my iMacdesktop computer. My husband says to me, "oh, no not again" and leaves the room when I am dealing with HP customer support in its many forms. He is tired of my experiences with HP and tells me to go to another brand. Next malfunction, I will do as he requests.

Thank you for your posting.  After weeks of frustration caused by the same error message  (C4EBA341) I simply opened the print cartage access and wiggled the ink cartage pack around until is started moving and the printer re set itself.  Same issue with me, the last issue prior to the blue screen and the error code I could remember, had something to do with page alignment.

Thanks again.
