Hello noparking69,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are looking for reset instructions for your printer.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
Once the printer is back on, use the on/off button and power the unit down. Let it sit for 1-2 minutes and then power it back on again. This will do a semi power reset on the unit.
If you are still having issues, please let me know and I will look into more in depth troubleshooting for you.
Thanks for your time.
Cheers,

Hi,
Help! The small LCD screen on the printer appears to be frozen, showing the HP logo and a non-moving blue line beneath it.
Background: I, too, am trying to do a hard reset of my C4780. Somehow I think my software intallation attempt has corrupted the printer's own memory setting. The printer had been working via USB cable. I wanted to switch it to WIFI/wireless, so I downloaded the latet intall package from HP, and got past the point where I could select 'change from USB to wireless.' At some point the installation gets stuck, and report that the PC can't communicte w/ the printer.
I am hoping I can do a tryly hard reet of the unit. (Merely unplugging, wating, and then plugging back in does not work.)
Any thoughts very appreciated.

Hello Chowlander,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with the printers display screen freezing.
Please make sure that you have the printer connected directly to a wall outlet and not a Power bar/strip.
Do a proper power cycle with the use of the ON/OFF button after it has been connected to the wall outlet.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
Thanks for your time.

Hi, & Thx.
I was in fact using a power strip, but even as I now plug into a wall outlet, I have the same problem. Specifically, even after unplugging from the (now wall) outlet for 30+ seconds, when I plug it back iknto wall outlet the printer display screen only shows the HP logo, and the horizontal blue band at the bottom of the screen, with a brighter burst of light moving across the blue band as if it's doing some form of POST. The printer didn't always display this behaviour; rather, it appeared after I tried to install the software. BTW, I initially tried to install it as a WIFI connected printer, and, I recall, at one point I had gotten to the point where (according to the install screen on my PC) the process got so far that it was recognizing my SSID, and then it stopped working. I then uninstalled & reinstalled the software, hooking it up as a USB-connected device.
And still no luck!! Any help you can offer would be much appreciated. I still think that some sort of deeper, 'clean reset' would be a good starting point.

I'm having the same trouble as most people. I was trying to resintall the software on a windows 10 and after the installation, the HP printer started freezing at the buffering view. I just see the HP logo above the blue buffering bar for hours and hours on end. I tried resetting by restarting, unplugging and plugging it back in, and by resintalling the cartridges but to no avail. Could you please send me some steps as to how to reset the hardware??
