Hi HP'ers,

I had to do a Full Reset (Engineering Menu, no Semi-, Partial Reset) to get my Officejet 6700 Premium working again.

As you know a Full Reset does a bit more than go back to factory settings.

I am wondering now, if a Full Reset affects more settings than I can actually access within the standard settings?

After the Reset the Printer feels a bit slow over all, thats why I'm wondering.

Maybe there is someone offically from HP around and can give me a short answer.

Thanks so far.

Hi meinster,

This printer has a non-removable printhead, and if it didn't check the print alignment or complete its maintenance you could end up having issues while attempting to print. The maintenance keeps the print head in good condition so you do not get clogged nozzles or bad print quality. If you feel that the printer is printing slower than it before you may want to try uninstalling, and then reinstalling the printer on the computer.

Hi meinster,

There are an increasing number of posts in this forum and elsewhere in the internet with the steps to do a resets on different printers.  The reset itself will sometimes fix problems, so the reset is not the issue.

Some resets require you to enter button combinations to open special menus on your printer that you were never meant to access.  These special menus are used by the developers and support personnel for debugging issues, but they are not meant for untrained users and can have unintended results.  One wrong button push and you no could no longer have a printer, but instead a pricey paper weight.  To top it off, if you do happen to "brick" the printer this way, it is considered customer induced damage, and voids the warranty automatically.  These resets are only meant to be given out and used as a last resort, and under direct instruction of a HP tech support representative. They should not be done lightly!

Please provide additional details.

1. Operating System (including service pack revision)
2. Connection Method - USB, Hardwired LAN, Wireless?
3. Error messages - on printer screen and/or computer, any blinking light patterns.

Thanks pcwizard for your reply,

Wireless

None

The printer is fine so far, but it feels a bit slow compared to the speed before the reset.
My question is just, does a full reset kill settings, I can not find in the settings menu of my printer?

About your service menus:

The printer has, what I would call a firmware issue.

Allmost always after doing it's printjob (previously shut down) the printer needs to do a pen aligenment.
But the printout is fine. So what's the point of doing a service AFTER printing?

I know HP says it's necessary to keep the printer in good shape but obviously it isn't.

In previous models of HP printers there was an option in one of these services  menus to disable the pen aligment.
I think it would be nice to say, HP just missed this feature in the latest firmware.

Would be happy if there will be a firmware update in the future thats either brings this option back (which I don't think will happen) or get rid of those endlessly repeating pen aligments (which I also think wont happen).

Right, I agree with you that the printer needs it's maintenance occasionally.

But why does it print FIRST and then decides to have it's maintenance.

If the nozzles are clogged, it wouldn't print !

I'll try to unistall und reinstall the printer and give a notice.

Hi meinster,

Are you indicating that this printer will run a cleaning procedure after every print job or just after you run a long print job. If you run a long print job it is going to run the maintenance procedure to make sure the print head is primed and ready for the next print job you send it.

Hi pcwizard,

maintaining is not done after any print job but mostly after short ones (2-3 pages).

Reinstalling software made the printer go faster again. Thanks 🙂
