Same exact issues here. I can only use the desktop scan software with my Windows XP laptop. It no longer works on ANY windows 7 machines.
Please PLEASE PLEASE do not ask me to run that blasted Print doctor software. I don't know who wrote it, but it is about as helpful as having overseas tech support asking if I turned the thing on. This is a major issue.
Windows XP laptop on home network (wifi) - scan works
Windows 7 desktop on home network (wifi) - does not work
Windows 7 desktops on home network (ethernet) - does not work
Something major happened in Windows land. Fine if that isn't HP's direct responsibility. However, if there is no solution and my printer continues to degrade (now my fax capability doesn't work either), then I'll get rid of the printer and switch brands to Canon. That is what it's about.

Hi RobCasper,
Follow the steps below to check the WIA Service:
1. Type services.msc in run or search program and files
2. Scroll down to the WIA Windows Image Acquisition
3. Make sure that this service is running. Click Stop, and then Restart to make sure
4. Restart the computer
Restart the Dependencies services:
1. Click on Start, in Search box type “services” without quotes.
2. Scroll down until you see Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
3. Double click on it and go to the tab called Dependencies.
4. 2 services should be listed.
5. Exit that window and look for Remote Procedure Call (RPC).
6. Make sure it’s on manual or if it is on Auto, just leave it. Make sure the service is started though.
7. Go to Shell Hardware Detection and Double click.
8. Set the Start up Type as Manual and hit Apply.
9. You should be able to Start the service by hitting Start.
10. Now you are done and the Twain Manager should be working and not give you an error. This should fix your problem

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately those steps did not work either. I tried them based on earlier posts. I've been in the registry. Moved, deleted, and reinstalled Twain32 folders.
This is an issue that is unresolved for a large and growing number of us. Windows 7 64 bit released an update back in the 2012 timeframe causing practically everyone's scanner drivers to stop properly working.
Yes, HP can say it's a windows issue. However it is an HP issue if we can't get our $500 printer working. There are a large number of complaints on the issue, but HP corporate has remained silent. That is the frustrating part. We've all called their horrible technical service to talk to some obstructionist person on the phone who "never heard of this before". That isn't customer service, that is customer abandonment.
I may just lick my wounds from this, and lease a standalone Xerox multifunction for my business. At least then I'll get a sales rep who has to make sure that my product still works if he or she wants to keep getting their commission.
What we need is for HP to develop, test, and release an update driver package for Windows 7 64 bit.

Hi RobCasper,
Make sure that you have the latest firmware installed on the printer from the link below.
Have you tried the steps in Message 28 of 33?
What errors do you get when you used the Print and Scan Doctor?
Are you successfully able to scan from Microsoft Paint or Fax and scan?
Can you access the EWS - EMbedded Web Server of the printer by typing the printers assigned IP address in IE address bar?

Unfortunately, no. My situation is exactly like Stavral's. I, he , and others have tried all of that. I can connect to, print, and even ping the printer all day long. Once anything involving scanning tries to touch it, it hangs. Windows Fax and Scan cannot establish a connection.
Do you know if anyone at HP corporate is working on this?

Hi RobCasper,
Thank you for the update, and I can understand the frustration with this issue. There are a lot of scenario’s which can play a part in this communication issue over network. I have tested this printer on several Win 7 computers I have here in my area without having any issues.
At this point it would be good to see if you experience the same issue when you have the printer directly connected from the computer to the printer with an Ethernet cable (Adhoc). The printer will have what is called an Auto IP address similar to 169.253.???.???. Once you have the printer connected Adhoc try reinstalling the printer using this Auto IP address, and then see if you are then able to scan to the printer. Let me know what you find out?
What is the make and model of your router?

Hi Support,
I have upgrade my PC to Windows 7.
I have installed the Windows 7 64 Bit comptitable full solution software.
I tried using the scanning software and find out that I am unable to to the personalised profile. It keeps using the default setting profile.
On top of that, I no longer have the option to load a profile name to the Printer window screen.
I can confirm it works with Win XP.
Can you please assist for Printer CM 2320nf ?
Thanks.
Rex

To all who've experienced this HP Scanner Problem.
to no avail. Then an IT support guy I know suggested running Malwarebytes (make sure you only download directly from malwarebytes.org) and BINGO problem sorted.
Perhaps if you still have this problem you might like to try the solution above.
PS I don't work for HP I'm just a bloke who struggles with technology when it goes wrong lol
Cheers
Provost may have been right when he pointed to a virus in one of his posts though malwarebytes, I believe, is more 'sensitive' shall we say.

I am having the same problem on an M1212nf. I had the computer cleaned by an IT firm and afterward, I was able to sccan one document prior to getting the "THere is no TWAIN compliant device". I followed your instructions precisely and it did not work. Any suggestions? I dislike using the scan festure on teh HP vbecasue it will not scan as a pdf and that is what I need. Thank you.
