Hi, I'm having this same problem. but am not using an airport extreme route. My printer is connected wirelessly, I'm using a Linksys router. Any suggestions on how to get this scan-to-email up and running?
Thanks!

Print out the network configuration (press the icon that looks like a wrench, select Network, then View Network Settings, then Print Network Configuration Page). In the IPv4 section, tell me what it says for the following:
- IP Address
- Default Gateway
- Primary DNS Server.
If either of these items are blank or set to 0.0.0.0, then scan to email won't work and we'll need to manually set these items.

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand where I need to find these settings. I'm using a mac - I go to System Preferences, click Network - and that's where I get lost 🙂 I don't see anything about viewing Network Settings.
Thanks!

Sorry for the confusion.
From the printer's touch screen, press the icon that looks like a wrench. This is the setup button. From the menu that appears on the touch screen, scroll down and select Network, then select View Network Settings and then select Print Network Configuration Page. On the printed report's IPv4 section, tell me what it says for the following:
- IP Address
- Default Gateway
- Primary DNS Server.
If either of these items are blank or set to 0.0.0.0, then scan to email won't work and we'll need to manually set these items.

Hi Lynn,
From the printer's touch screen, print out the Network Configuration page (press the wrench icon, scroll down and select Network, select View Network, select Network Configuration Page).
From the report's IPv4 section, tell me the following:
- IP Address
- Subnet Mask
- Default Gateway
- Primary DNS Server
If the last two items are 0.0.0.0 or missing, then we'll have to set them manually from the printer's internal web based configuration page.

The network configuration looks good. It might be an issue with your email provider. Which email service are you trying to connect the Officejet 8500 to?

Who provides your email service?
Can you access the printer's internal web page by browsing to it's IP address?
