HP 8630 OfficeJet Pro
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have had an HP Officejet 8630 attached to an HP Pavilion laptop for over a year, of course forgetting how I set the printer up initially.  In trying to access the printer from another PC (Dell Inspiron laptop), that PC sees it, but when I print something, it goes to the spooler, then disappears as if it printed, but it doesn't really print.  After lots of tries to fix it, I have screwed up something, I'm sure.   So I want to reset the printer to the settings as they were "out of the box."  However, the printer doesn't let me, showing "This feature has been locked by your administrator or the person who set up the printer."  That's me.  I don't know how I locked it.  How do I do a hard reset on the printer to start over?

Hello@oldtimer03,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!  It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel.

I understand that you need to reset the printer. Did I get it, right?

I recommend you to follow the steps below and check if that helps you get rid of the issue on the printer.

  • Press the Power button to turn on the printer if it is not already on.
  • Disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the printer if it is connected.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  • Press the Power button to turn on the printer.

Hope this answers the question. Please let me know more.

Thanks for your response, but no, it didn't fix my problem.  I can't print to this printer from either my HP Pavilion, or my Dell Inspiron, and I lost my WiFi connection in the process.  Whenever I try to do anything like "reset" the printer or change my WiFi on the printer, I still get the message:  "This feature has been locked by your administrator or the person who set up the printer" and can't go any further.   If I could just get past that message, I think that I could fix my problem of printing.

I just want to restore the printer to the "out of the box" configuration.

Thanks again.
