HP Deskjet F4180
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Reference: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Software-and-Drivers/hp-deskjet-f4180-windows-10-problem-bad-pr...

Hello,

I experience the same problem, too. And I couldn't find a solution on Windows 10 yet.

I have HP Deskjet F4180 printer. While I was using Windows 7, there was no problem in printing. But I have upgraded from Win7 to Win10, some problems have occured in printing with color. These problems are that on A4 page, the green colors seem blue, the blue ones become like red. This situation is looked on your images (The green flower resembles blue, the blue one seems like red, purple).

I have done some tests with this problem.

1. At Microsoft Word 2010, I wrote some words which are different colors. These colors are RED (255,0,0), GREEN (0,255,0), BLUE (0,0,255). I tried this process in the different programs and operating systems. When I print, they seem as following (Kırmızı means RED, Mavi is BLUE, Yeşil is GREEN in Turkish):

1.jpg

As seen from the picture, only the print on Pardus is correct (I couldn't use Win7, but it already gives correct print).

2. I made the printer print a system test file as following:

2.jpg

There is no problem. Because, I think the printer doesn't print this test page via the HP driver.

As a result, I guess that this problem results from the Windows 10 driver of the printer. The old drivers of the printer are not compatible with Win 10. So, they can't be used.

I would like HP to update the Windows 10 driver of the printer in order to fix the color problem.

Best Regards,

Serdar MERT

Hi @serdar-mert,

Welcome to the HP Forums! It looks like you have done a lot of troubleshooting already and have isolated the issue. I understand the print quality is good when you print form a Windows 7 machine but the colors are not as expected. Please try an alternate print driver and let me know the outcome:

  1. In the search box, type Devices.
  2. Click on Devices and Printers.
  3. Right-click on your printer.
  4. Select Printer Properties.
  5. Click on the Advanced tab.
  6. Click on New Driver.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Select HP from the first list.
  9. Select HP Deskjet PCL3 Class Driver from the second list.  You can also use either the Photosmart PCL3 class Driver, Officejet PCL3 Class Driver, Deskjet 990c or Deskjet 450 driver.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Click Finish.
  12. Click Apply to save the changes.

Trying an alternate driver will help determine if the F4180 driver is the root cause of the issue or not.

Firstly, I thank you for your reply.

I have tried what you say:

1. HP Deskjet PCL3 Class Driver

2. Photosmart PCL3 class Driver

3. Officejet PCL3 Class Driver

4. Deskjet 990c

5. Deskjet 450 driver

There weren't the drivers at 4th and 5th row. They have appeared after Windows Update process at that window.

Installing the New Driver

But, the printer is not reacting/printing for any driver. It is waiting only. The printing window says "pending" and then it stays empty.

I have tried to unistall the "HP F4180 driver for Windows 10" to use the "lite driver" that Windows 10 installs. For it has not been uninstalled completely, I had to install it again. Still, the color problem is continuing.

Is there another method I can do?

Let's try another approach. I suggest completing a comprehensive uninstall and then reinstalling a from a fresh download. Please use the steps below to accomplish this task:

  1. Hold down the Windows Logo key () on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box, type %temp%
  2. Delete all files and folders from the temp folder. Choose skip if any pop ups appear saying any of the files could not be deleted
  3. Download the software and choose to save as, save to desktop > DJ_AIO_NonNet_Full_Win_WW_140_404-4.exe Source: Driver page for the F4180
  4. After the software downloads and extracts, open the temp folder again, use the instructions from step 1.
  5. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
  6. Open folder Util
  7. Open folder CCC
  8. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have anon-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
  9. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
  10. Follow these steps to reset the registry settings and options for Windows Installer.

    • Hold down the Windows Logo key on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box
    • In the Open box, type msiexec /unregister, and then click OK.
    • Hold down the Windows Logo key on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box
    • In the Open box, type msiexec /regserver, and then click OK
*Note: there is a space between the c and the /

If you have any difficulty with this step, please use this link to perform it another way. Restarting Windows Installer

  11. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tool < How to Delete files using Disk Cleanup
  12. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
  13. Restart the computer
  14. Download and run the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows

The HP Printer Install Wizard for Window was created to help Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 users download and install the latest and most appropriate HP software solution for their HP Printer.

Hello again,

I have done what you write. Unfortunately, there is no result. When I apply the steps, I see the driver couldn't be removed completely.

This is the selection of L3 uninstaller:

-1.JPG

This is the command window appeared when clicking on "Uninstall_L3":

This is the error during uninstall process:

-1.JPG
(Related to this error, I have searched HP Forum. There are many same error. But, problem wasn't solved.)

Interestingly, even though I have uninstalled the driver, at "Devices and Printers" I can see all properties of the printer. Namely, the driver wasn't uninstalled completely.

But, when I want to install the driver again, I have taken the following error:

3.JPG

Here, at the first sentence, it says that "HP Solution Center can't be started since the installing of your device isn't completed". And then "Please plug in the USB cable...".

But, when USB cable is plugged, there is no change.

Moreover, I have tested the printer by my another computer (HP dv6-Beats). The problem is same. I have bought a new cartridge (22XL), the problem is same. There hasn't become any improvement despite of so many tests.

My primary coputer is HP dv6-Altec (Intel, Windows 10, x64). I can try if you have another solution suggestion.

Hi ,

Using the words of serdar-mert,  “I experienced the same problem, too. And I didn't find a solution on Windows 10 yet.”.

I have HP Deskjet F4180 printer that works fine in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, but when connected to a notebook with O.S. Windows 10 there are printing problems with color (i.e., the blue colors seem red).

I tried all the steps above and even other approaches present in different topics, but unfortunately the problem persists. My last try was format the HD of my notebook and install a fresh Windows 10, downloaded from de Microsoft website on Jan 24, 2016. After that, I downloaded from the HP website the last version of F4180 printer driver (File name: DJ_AIO_NonNet_Full_Win_WW_140_404-4.exe | Version: 14.8.0 | File size: 219.0 MB | Updated: Dec 6, 2015). The install occurred normally, but this procedure didn't solve the issue with print colors.

The results indicate a problem with the HP Deskjet F4180 driver that HP provides to Windows 10.

Could you please help me?

Sincerely,
Jean
