I just purchased this printer. I am attempting to install it. I am stuck after installing the cartridges. The screen states "Carriage Jam. The printer carriage cannot move...." I see no visible obstructions. I have taken the cartridges out and reinstalled several times. I have unplugged and plugged the power cord numerous times for different lengths of time. I about to return the thing. Please help!

My son came home and fixed my problem. I had him start from the very beginning and he got it to work. Thanks for your help.

Make sure the lever/latch (the top moving part, on the cartridge seat) are pressed down fully locking the cartridges into place (with a clicking sound).

Charles001 ~ Yes, the cartridges are securely locked into place.

Maybe try one more thing before another trip to the store:
If you hold the purple cap on the cartridge, and with a gentle force, try to move it toward the center, does it move? And also, this page described how to deal with paper jam, cartridge jam, etc. may have some useful info: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754704

Hi helpplease30,

I understand you're getting a carriage related error on your Envy 4500. I will certainly do my best to help you with this error.

I would recommend following this Carriage Jam document and it should be able to help fix this issue for you. If the problem is persisting after these steps, please also plug the printer directly to a wall outlet to ensure it has enough power to function properly.

Hope this helps, have a great day!!

I am having the same issue. the cartridge carriage will not move freely. There are no obstructions. fresh out the box. please help

in trying to troubleshoot a carriage jam....carriage will not move to check for jam.  I think probably cartridges aren't put in right, but I can't see what is wrong.
