Hi, thanks for replying. Yes, that was the first thing I tried, and there is no option to select black and white from there. I am just opening the pic with the windows default picture viewer option/program. I will see if I can include the printscreen.print printscreen.jpg

Hi appellativo,

Thanks for the response!

You're very close to it (in the screen shot you provided in your previous post), you just have to click on either the Layout or the Paper/Quality tab and then the Advanced button and you can then select Black Ink Only as you had in the driver.

Let me know if that works for you 🙂

interesting. That worked, even though I did the very same thing but going in through the Control Panel/Printers. An interesting note, when the option stuck, the preview picture was shown in black and white, so that is a good way to know how it's going to print without actually doing a test print (and wasting ink). Thanks.

Hi, I have a Mac and so can't follow your instructions to set to black and white printing only. Help!

Hi Abbylady1,

Welcome to the HP forums!

That's not a problem, I can give you some instructions for your Mac to set up black ink only as well. Please just follow the screen shot below (generally best to do it in a program like TextEdit) and you will be able to select the Black Ink Only option and then if you click up top where it says "Default Settings" in the screen shot, and select Save or Save As to make a Preset for Black Ink Only 🙂

I want to set my printer to print in black and white only.  I tried tofollow your suggestions but the "apply" button does not work.  When I go to the advanced options, it says "black ink only" but it still prints coupons in color.  I want them to print in black and white.

Hello @Rose120 and welcome to the HP Forums!

If you set the black ink only to print in the driver, certain programs can over ride those settings still. I'd suggest that you also choose the black ink only within the program as you're printing.

Assuming you are using Windows, you would click File, Print, then look for a Properties or Preferences button and follow the same steps you did to set the black ink only in the driver.

This should hopefully get your coupons printing in black ink only, but if they continue to print in color let me know and I'll see what else I can suggest 🙂

There is no way to choose black and white printing when printing from coupon sites such as coupons.com.  We just got this HP envy 4500 printer a few weeks ago to replace our HP photosmart 5510 that broke.  On that printer, we could set the color of ink and hit the "apply" button and I could print my coupons in black and white.  On the envy 4500, the "apply" button shows up but is not highlighted and therefore, cannot click on it.  When going into the options after clicking on "advanced", the printer shows that it is set on black ink only.  I don't know why I could print black and white coupons on the Photosmart but not on the Envy from the same site.

I am done with this, how can I get this website to quit emailing me asking if my problem is solved? LOL

I have a mac computer and would like instructions on how to make the black & white printing my default option. Can you tell me how? Thanks!
