My printer once worked fine, however now it won't connect to my wifi. It says that the password I typed in is incorrect even though it's correct. The printer does connect if I remove the password off the network. However once I go back and set a password again, the printer disconnects. I want a solution to this as I will not leave my wifi network without a password only because the printer can't connect with one set. Also I don't want to have to go back and change my network settings every time I want to print/scan/copy something. Please help, this problem is stopping me from getting my work done.

Hi @cultroger,
Thanks for showing interest in the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're unable to connect your printer wirelessly with encryption. I would be happy to help you and please remember to return to this thread and mark 'Accept as Solution', if I have successfully helped you resolve the issue. If you wish to say 'thanks' for my effort to help, click the 'thumbs up' to give me a Kudos.
It sounds like there could be an issue with the printer or the passphrase.
First, I'm going to have you "Restore Defaults" on the printer.
Restore network defaults from the printer's front panel menu:
- Setup Menu.
- Wireless.
- Restore Defaults, select Yes.
Turn off IPV6 from the printer's front panel menu:
- Setup Menu.
- Wireless.
- Advanced Settings.
- IPV6, Select Off.
- Run Wireless Setup Wizard to connect to your network.
Tips for successful wireless connection:
- What encryption type are you using? HP recommends WPA or WPA2.
- Use a unique network name (SSID).
- Avoid using Mac Address Filtering on the router.
- Make sure you have 802.11g enabled.
- The printer cannot connect to the 5.0 GHz network. If you have a dual-band router, the 2.4 GHz, and 5.0 GHz network names should not be the same. Rename the 5.0 GHz network.
- Do not hide your SSID (network name).
- Change the router to a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6 or 11, which has less traffic.
- Do you have a switch or an additional router?
- Do not use a guest network (SSID).
- Disable UPnP on the router.
- Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on the router.
- Update the router's firmware.
Update the printer's firmware:
- Click here to download and install the printer's firmware update using the USB connection.
- Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet (don't use a power bar or a surge protector).
Alternatively, you can follow these steps in the User Guide to "Change from a USB connection to a wireless network".
This will send the wireless configuration on the computer to the printer (including the SSID and password).
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you. Good Luck! 🙂

Ok so I restored the printer's wifi settings to default and also disabled IPv6. Still didn't work. Then I went into my router's settings and made sure the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks had different names. Still didn't work. (They are both using WPA2-PSK (AES) encryption) Mac address filtering is disabled and the network is on a fixed wireless channel. After all this the printer still says I've typed in the wrong password.

Hi @cultroger,
Thanks for getting back to me.
Did you update the printer's firmware and try configuring the wireless using "Change from a USB connection to a wireless network"?
NOTE: The wireless password is case sensitive, please ensure you're entering it with upper-case letters if needed.
I recommend that you perform the Semi-Full Reset. This will set the printer back to factory default settings. The network would have to be configured again. I can send you that information in a private message. In the forum beside your handle name just click on the envelope to view it.
Try reconnecting to you network again.
At this point, we know the wireless radio works well as it communicates wirelessly without encryption. If the issue persists, please contact the router manufacturer.
Please respond to this post with the results. Thank you for posting!
