I too am having this problem.  I've done the steps above but still have failure.  I can ping the device, I can load the device webpage by typing the ip into a browser, I can even print to the device yet the installer won't recognize the device to install it as an image device.  This is after the device was successfully installed for months previously and occured after updates have been released for the software, the device was "unreachable" on the network, re-adding the device wouldn't recognize it so I figured a full install would do it.

Hello paemt6107,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

Are you too using the ENVY 5530 and Windows 8.1? Try a wireless connection that bypasses the router. On the printer, enable Wireless Direct. On the PC, connect it to the printer's network, it will be something like HP-Print-ENVY.....

With the two connected directly, try running the installer. If you need to re-download the installer due so prior to joining the printer's network as you will not have Internet access.

Let me know if you can print / install this way.

Hi mactheknight,

Let me know the results of the suggestions offered in prior posts. As well, please confirm the printer and version of Windows being used.

Thanks,

So an Ad-Hoc network connection directly between the printer and PC?  Yes I can print that way, but isn't the point of the problem.

You're suggesting there is a problem with the network?  Everything else works on the network, 3 phones, 2 PCs (Windows and Linux), 2 tablets, a NAS drive, and 2 video game entertainment systems; which all can see each other, ping each other, and when appropriate share information (music, video, etc.).  The printer is visible by most of these devices and can be printed to while using the network, all with the same router.  The software, SOFTWARE designed by HP, can't find the printer, yet Windows on the same machine can and is able to function with printer with the limitations of the Windows driver and Windows interface.  If everything can use the printer except for the HP software, couldn't the HP software be the problem?

If I have the same functionality with the Ad-Hoc network as I do using the building network with a router, then apparently it's not a network problem.

This seems to be affecting a number of people and is not only limited to the Envy 5530 but the HP photosmart 7520 and the HP touchsmart computer. Finds the network but doesn't connect.

Her is my issue . I cannot print on my wireless all in one hp envy 5530.

I can ping the printer , i can see the printer if i put its ip as url on my browser ok. It even printed a test page.  i can print a test page from the printer itself. I disabled my firewall, but when i try to print files on my computer I cannot. my computer wont recognize it and when i try to add the printer in control panel it tells me to look for printer driver from manufacturer.

Befor I reinstalled windows  i was able to use this same printer ok. there was something about onenote that i went thru to make it work then but i dont remember what steps i took then. Your help would be appriciated.

Okay, so here is what I ended up having to do for a long time:

The computer recognized the printer from Word or any time I needed to print wirelessly. It would pick it up and it would print with no problems. I had problems when I tried to open the printer console on the desktop so I could scan something. I ended up having to just choose the scan option on the printer itself and I just had to accept the way it scanned without getting to adjust brightness or anything like that. I just went with it and managed. THEN I bought a HP laptop for my son and purchased the new Microsoft Office 365 for students, with a license for multiple computers. I went through a NIGHTMARE trying to get it installed on my computer, including 10+ hours of customer support from Microsoft AND a total reboot (as in system restore, all the way down to defaults when I bought it, and hard drive wipe) before it would install the Office software. Once it was installed, I had to go and re-install all my other programs (printer, photo editing software, etc.). When I re-installed this printer driver, it worked like a charm. I have had NO issues since then. Now, I am in no way saying that everyone will have to do all that, but that's what made it work on my end.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions and help!

Hello,

I am having the same problem as other people in this thread.  I have tried to connect to the printer through my wifi network and it doesn't connect.  However, I can connect to the printer directly and can print/install from there.  Once I leave the network, the printer goes offline and I am unable to do anything.  I have logged into my router and I saw that the printer is connected through there.  When I try to ping the printer, there is no ping at all.  Any help would appreciated! Thank you.

Edit: Actually, I was unable to ping it from my computer, but I was able to ping it from the router.
