Hi Paul,

We can certainly get you a power supply that can fix the noise issue but not sure it will resolve your other issue. Has this occurred since you've owned the printer or did you notice this over time?

Hello,

Replacing the power supply should certainily fix the "noise" problem.

Buit i doubt it its fix the SLEEP mode issue.  Printer not waking up from sleep could be also due to the kind of wireless router you have.

This has been occurring since I purchased the printer last month.

As for the router, it's a standard Verizon router that (I'm sure) is used extensively nation wide:

The model number is:  MI424WR-GEN2

Hardware version: E

Physical connection type: COAX

Broadband connection type: DHCP

If there is a setting in the Verizon router which has been known to correct the deep sleep issue with the printer,  could you please let me know? I want to ensure I've tried everything possible before having anything replaced.

Thank you.

Paul

Received nearly a nonth ago a new printer (stille the same problem).
Afterwards I receided 2 new Power Adapters : A9T80-60008 Rev. B.
The last one that I received yesterday 'sounds' good (lol) ...
The irritating noise is still present, but only when you put your ear at the back of the printer.
Thanks HP for the service.

Regards,
Dirk.

I too am having the same problem. I purchased the printer 3 weeks. I was considering taking it back, but if a new power supply corrects the issue, that would be preferred. How do I go about requesting a replacement power supply?
Thanks.

Jessica,

How do we get this new power supply to fix this noise issue? I'm sure more and more people will end up on this post after Googling "HP 7640 noise".  I just received this noisy printer to replace another HP Envy that failed. Only a couple days and already an issue with the new printer. What is the next step to get the replacement part? I'd rather not waste any more time on the phone with HP telling they've never heard of any complaints.

Update to previous post: I contacted HP's support through their online chat. The representative was able to diagnose the noisy power supply. They sent out a replacement. I received the replacement power supply. I replaced it and the noise is quieter. It's not gone, but it is better. It would have been nice for them to include a set of directions for how to install the new one, but I did figure it out without much trouble. Will have to wait and see what happens. I still have 4 days left in my return period.

Hello Jherby,

Replacing the Power module has fixed the "Noise" issue.

However If the issue still exists, then i guess the printer need to be serviced.

As far as the warranty of the printer is concerned, HP offers 1yr warranty from the date of purchase of the printer.

You may always feel free to call for HP Tech Support for any concern.

If you are in US , the toll free # is 1-800-474-6836 .

If you are not in US , then log on to www.hp.com , at bottom-left corner there is a world map icon, click on it and then select the region you belong to, which would then provide support options for you for that region.

Getting a new power supply fixed the noise problem for me. The issue is that when I called tech support they told me there was no fix for the problem and that the noise is just a normal part of the printer's function. The only way I was able to get the replacement power supply was to post multiple times on the message boards and then send private messages back and forth with the representative that responded. Then when the power supply arrived there were no instructions included on how to replace it. I was able to figure it out but did struggle a little. Since this is clearly a known issue, can tech support be trained on how to deal with this problem so that everyone doesn't have to go through all this work to have it fixed? Are there plans to update the power supply on the printers still being sold or is HP going to continue to sell the faulty product? (I tried exchanging the printer and it seems they all have the noisy power supply). The reason everyone keeps posting on the message board instead of calling tech support is that tech support seems to be unaware of the issue and will do nothing to fix it.

Hi Lindsay,

Is the only issue the noise or are you experiencing other issues? The number for customer support is below. They will be able to send you a replacement power supply if this is your only concern with the printer.

Best,

Jessica
