I have had this same problem for months with this printer....no help at ALL from HP Support. All they do is keep telling me to reload the software and try again. I get the "Print Cartridge Problem -- Tri-Color" message at least 85% of the time when I try to print ANYTHING. Occasionally, just unseating and reseating the color cartridge VERY vigorously works. Most of the time, though, I have to turn the printer off and reboot it. At this very moment, I am watching the printer attempt to shut down after pushing the power button. It has been 10 minutes, and it is still not shut off. I am DISGUSTED with this printer. It's out of warranty, of course, and I am certainly not paying HP for the privilege of letting them tell me....again....to reload the software. HP used to make the finest printers ou I t there. It would seem that this is no longer the case. This thing woudn't even make a decent boat-anchor....not heavy enough. I'm looking around for a tree service using one of those big chippers....going to ask them if I can toss this piece of crap into it.

Try removing the cartridges and performing a hard reset.

Follow these steps to perform a hard reset on the printer.

1. Press the Power button to turn on the product.

2. With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.

3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

4. Wait at least 15 seconds.

5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.

7. If the product does not turn on by itself, press the power button to turn it on.

Once it's back on, put the cartridges back in when it asks for them.

Try that and let me know if it helps!

Best of luck,

Hi, have a very recent Officejet 4575 with same problem and tried that workaround. It effectively works. Looks like HP should reinvent the Hard reset button...

Thanks anyway, would better have purchased a printer that works but...
