Hi,
I've been using Officejet 6600 for about 9 months. In last days, I am unable to scan or make copies, but it will print fine. I am running Apple OX 10.9.3. I have interchangeably used the direct driver and Airprint.
I have restarted both iMac and Printer multiple times, deleted and reinstalled printer in System Preferences, pressed "on" button on printer for one minute while unplugged to reset, checked that firmware is up to date, and used both Apple Preview and HP apps for scanning, but nothing works. When trying to scan, I keep getting error that "scanner is busy". When I try to simply copy, the printer hangs and even cancelling print job, just crashes and obliges me to unplug printer.
I would love some help to figure this out.
Thanks,
AJ

Hi @AJCHP,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that your HP Officejet 6600 will not copy or scan, and I am happy to help!
I appreciate all the troubleshooting you have done so far, as it definitely helps.
Just a question, if you lift up the scanner lid while copying, do you see the scanner bar move, or the light turning on?
In the meantime, please try the following:
- Please make sure that the printer's power cable is plugged directly into the wall outlet, not a surge protector. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
- You can also try a hard reset, please see this post, How to perform a Hard Reset, by @Rich1.
Hope this will help, and have a nice day!

Hi @MkatzRD,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
Please try the following:
- Make sure that the printer's power cable is plugged directly into the wall outlet, not a surge protector. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
- You can also try a hard reset, please see this post, How to perform a Hard Reset, by @Rich1.
- Also double-check that the firmware is up-to-date. Getting Printer Updates for HP Officejet Pro 8600 (N911), Officejet 6600 (H711) and Officejet 6700 P....
If those solutions do not resolve your issue, then your printer needs to be replaced/upgraded depending on if you are in warranty. Thank you for your quick response. I tried all of your suggested solutions that I found from another post. Unfortunately, I have re-downloaded software, installed and uninstalled....but it sounds like the issue is that the light does not go on because I cannot scan or copy. The bar moves when machine turned on and that's it.
I am very dissapointed because I have only had this printer since 10/30/13 which means after 16.5 months it is no longer capable of performing 2/3 of its jobs.
Very dissapointed,
MskatzRD

I have just started to have the same issue; the printer will not copy or scan. I also tried the recommended trouleshooting of hard restart and re-downloading the software from HP. Neither of them worked. I am also disappointed as I had to set up another older printer to do my copying and scanning. This is also an HP printer (a C4780; I bought the 6600 to replace that one) which has network connectivity issues. So I now have two printers set up in my office to do the job that one should be able to do. I have been purchasing HP products for a number of years but I am not sure if I will purchase another HP printer when I purchase my next printer.
