I mentioned the network error message only because it got worse with IE after power cycling.
When I set up the printer the first thing it did was load an update. Hopefully there will be another update soon to solve the problem.

Brand new 8600. Owned less thant two days. Scan to computer keeps turning off. I see the network connection error every time I do a bulk scan to a network folder. After about 12 pages, Network connection error.
The 8500 is still purring like a kitten. Hopefully a fix for the 8600 is near.

I have just purchased and successfully installed the Officejet Pro 8600 (911a). My computer is a 64 bit Windows 7 machine with 8 gb. of RAM. I am connected to the printer with a wired network connection. Everything works perfectly except that I receive an error message when I attempt to log onto the printer's IP address through Internet Explorer 9. The message states: 'System Error'. 'Network connection error. Check network and try again'.
It is the same issue that has been reported in the thread on your site with the following address:
The issue is titled: HP Officejet Pro 8600 Network connection error message in EWS.
Please note that if I use the Firefox Browser (10.0.2) I can connect without any difficulty and can make all the settings available. It is only when I use IE 9.
Has there been a resolution to this issue yet that has not been posted?
Thanks in advance for any information that you can provide.

Thanks so much for responding so quickly. It is greatly appreciated.
I installed the firmware update immediately after installing the Officejet Pro 8600. The Firmware Version reads: CLP1CN1150CR. This problem was discovered after the firmware upgrade. Sorry I forgot to mention that I had done that.
I have checked my IE 9 privacy/security/advanced settings, but cannot determine if any one of them might be preventing the connection. I also shut down my anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall briefly to see if that would have any effect. It did not.
Thanks again.

Thank you for responding. I made the suggested setting change to the Officejet Pro 8600. I selected "Only show me ink alerts when I print". I restarted the computer, verified that the new setting was correct and then attempted to log on to the printer's EWS home page. I received the same error message "Network connection error. Check network and try again." My default browser is Internet Explorer 9.
I then used Mozilla Firefox 10.02 to log on to the printer's home page and it worked perfectly.
I will have to use Firefox to log into the printer's homepage until the issue with IE 9 can be resolved. Thanks again for the help. It is appreciated.

Tried installing an 8500 but after two days of on line help was told to take it back to store. I then bought an 8600 on March 5. Installed it, printer said connected, computer showed it was connected. Could not print, error messages suggested firewall problem. Same problems I had with the 8500. Every fix suggested by HP fails to work. I have done over 10 hours work trying to print wirelessly.
This is junk. Guess I'll take it back and get another brand. HP either doesn't have a fix or doesn't care. Have been a faithful HP user for many years and gone through several HP printers but this is ridiculous. Anyone with a solutiion please email me at Stampcop@aol.com.

I have a brand new HP PhotoSmart 5514 (5510d B111h) and it is doing the same thing. Fails in both IE 7 and IE 8 from XP SP3. When I access the EWS (Embedded Web Server) via the printer's wireless IP address, the browser window goes black and I get the error message "System Error Network connection error. Check network and try again."
As others have reported, Firefox works just fine.
I tried an update from the printer control panel and it says I already have the latest firmware.
I can't believe this MAJOR BUG slipped by HP's QA department.
