HP Officejet Pro 8600 plus control panel not lit and will not function. It worked except the last 4 days. I can use some of the functions from the computer such as scan but cannot manually use the control panel. NOTHING is lit up. The power button is lit but only faintly.

Hi kwhofms,
Unplug the printer for 1 to 2 minutes, and then make sure the power is plugged directly into the wall outlet when you plug the printer back in. Let me know if the screen comes back?

No, this action did not help. I left it unplugged about 15 minutes. I also made sure I used the correct polarity on the plug to the wall receptable (spelling ?).
The only light I get is when I turn OFF the printer, the "X" and 1 other light will flash for a split second. That's all ----
I have this set up to work with a wireless Netgear 300N - I read somewhere that someone else had this problem and had to reset the wireless connection. Unfortunately, the wireless indicator on the printer is not functioning (not lit up), but the wireless connection is O.K. because I can print wirelessly from a laptop and from a desktop.

I too just had the same problem. Already have tried a complete power down. My screen is lit white. The lettering on the panel is very very faint--unreadable.
Screen worked fine up until today. My system is 10 months old.

I tried unpluging for a couple of minutes and pluging directly into the wall. Screen freezes after about 15 minutes. Worked with HP support and they down loaded firmwear. Still freezes after 15 minutes. What next. It appears that a lot of people are having the same trouble. Has HP come up with a fix yet.

Hi gospelsinger,
You might try a different power outlet in a different room. That can make a difference sometimes.
Have you done a Hard Reset as described in the following link? Click Here Be sure to have everything unplugged from the printer except the power cord before and after the reset. After the reset and with only the power cord connected to the printer, did the screen freeze?
Did the agent have you do a Semi Full Reset?

Hello Mare56,
Have you tried resetting the printer? Are you currently plugged directly into a wall outlet? If you are connected to a surge protector or extension cord, it may not be getting enough power.
If you are still unable to see the front panel I suggest you call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region please click the link below to get the support number for your region. http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/hpsupport/index.pl
I hope this is helpful.
Thank you,
I work on behalf of HP
