Which printer model do you have?

Hi.  Cannot use the auto print head cleaner until the error message is cleared, and there does not apper to be any way around this.  Any ideas?

Grateful for all of the advice so far (which I have tried).

Thanks.  However I could not remove the right side without doing damage, particularly as the retaining screws under the lid have non-standard heads.

Any other thoughts?

PS Would recommend that future models have a print-head cleaner button (or combination of buttons to do this) being pressed) as having to clear a basically unclearable error message before initiation printer cleaning is not currently possible.

For info:  Went to a reputable dealer for further advice and he honestly, without prompting from me, advised that the cost of investigation and repair might be similar to the cost of a new printer.  Oh well....... back t the supermarket.

I have the HP Photosmart B110 printer and got this error message this morning. No amount of resetting or cleaning the printhead helped

BUT - I HAVE MANAGED TO FIX MINE and got rid of the code and am now able to use my printer again'

How I've done this is with a combination of fixes on here and other forums.

You will need a small screwdriver with changeable heads (1 flat head and 1 star head) or 2 seperate drivers, you will also need a small pair of pliars the type that curve (you can get these from any electrical shop or Poundland type shops)

1.   Disconnect the power and computer cables from the printer

2.   With the printer facing you we are going to remove the LEFT SIDE PANEL

Lift the top, as though your changing the cartridges, you will see 2 scews on the left.

1 at the front and 1 at the rear (this 1 slopes towards you), remove these with the star driver.

Underneath the printer there are 3 lugs on the side panel that need to be disingaged with your fingers

Gently remove the panel - note there are also 3 tabs on the top that also need disingaging as you remove the panel

3.   You will see 4 ribbon cables, 2 on the left (1 white & 1 black) and 2 in the middle (both white)

Gently remove the front cable from the left side (the white 1) and remove the front cable from the middle.

4.   You will also see a clear celluliod disc about 60mm in diameter, below this disc you will see a flat chrome battery on

the circuit board. We are going to remove this.

The battery keeps the CMOS memory alive and holds info on your settings, cartidges, printhead & error codes.

BE WARNED - the disc is fragile and if you damage it you may as well chuck your printer in bin.

5.   Use the flat driver to gently lift the spring blade contact off the battery a little and hold, use the pliars to grip and

remove the battery - do not damage the disc, it will bend a lttle without damage but any creases will ruin it.

6.   For the memory to completely clear you will need to leave the battery out for 30 minutes

(to be sure it was clear I left mine out for about an hour).

7.   Time to reinstall the battery, use the flat driver and again gently lift the spring contact and insert the battery

8.   Refit the 2 cables all the way in, do not use force but gentle pressure.

9.   Refit the side panel taking care with the top lugs and ensure the bottom ones engage, fit the 2 screws back and

connect the power and computer cables and insert some paper.

10. Switch your printer on and let it boot up and do its own thing.  There will be several error codes and messages

displayed, just keep pressing the 'Yes' button to continue

If all is well it will start to print a 'printhead alignment' page which you will have to place in the top for it to copy

       and check.

With luck your printer should now be fixed - Good luck and I hope this helps someone in the future.

       In hindsight :

I have the feeling there is no need to remove the cables, only the battery, to clear the CMOS memory

Just bought new ink cartridges and this keeps coming up! Any suggestions?

HP Recommended

Just had failure notice after paying for a new expensive ink cartridge !   Anyway, I want to follow your instructions but not sure which bit I am supposed to open to get to white cables.   I can see them when I open up top as though to change ink cartridge.  There is a single piece grey cover over everything except the bit in the middle where the cartridges pop out to be changed. This cover is held in place by screws that appear to have been tapped in. ie. no where for a screw driver to fit in them.  Is this what I am supposed to remove somehow ?  If yes, any suggestions how ?  Thanks.
