Hi mebland,

Follow the steps below to check the WIA Service:

1. Type services.msc in run or search program and files

2. Scroll down to the WIA Windows Image Acquisition

3. Make sure that this service is running. Click Stop, and then Restart to make sure

4. Restart the computer

Restart the Dependencies services:

1. Click on Start, in Search box type “services” without quotes.

2. Scroll down until you see Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).

3. Double click on it and go to the tab called Dependencies.

4. 2 services should be listed.

5. Exit that window and look for Remote Procedure Call (RPC).

6. Make sure it’s on manual or if it is on Auto, just leave it. Make sure the service is started though.

7. Go to Shell Hardware Detection and Double click.

8. Set the Start up Type as Manual and hit Apply.

9. You should be able to Start the service by hitting Start.

10. Now you are done and the Twain Manager should be working and not give you an error.

Check dependencies or sub dependencies:

Right click on WIA (Windows Imaging Acquisition) selecting first properties and then the dependencies tab. It should list: Remote Procedure Call RPC  and  Shell Harward Detection

Under RPC it will then list DCOM Service Process Launcher and RPC Endpoint Mapper Go back to the main services.msc list and then right click and start all the items listed as dependencies or sub dependencies under WIA

What happens when you have the printer installed on a different computer?

Here's what I did. Since the better half has a new iPad, I bought a HP 6510 that's "air print" compatable. Ran the C4680 L4 uninstall and rebooted. Installed the 6510 for wireless setup and the install had no errors or issues. Then tried the scan from the 6510 to the computer. Works like it should. So I'm guessing there's something wrong with the old C4680.

Thanks for your help & replys.

Have a wonderful day?

You never trouble shoot the issue.

I am having the same problem and did everything you have asked, re-install,etc.

I have tried this on two other computers, and scanning just won't work.

Hi SHAKINAHAD,

If you are unable to make a copy from the printer then this is an indication of a hardware issue with the scanner. If you do not have an extended warranty on this printer check out the additional Out of warranty options link below.

The 'help" from hp tech support that is posted here is totally typical of their worthless misdirection and obfuscation:  a million questions about your system's specs and things you might be doing wrong, but never any acknowledgment that their product is junk.  If anyone wonders why I sound a little annoyed, it's because I've gotten the run-around a million times on hp's nonfunctional printers, even following the advice to buy a more expensive c4680, which like everyone else's does not scan.  I have stopped buying hp products except for minimal amounts of ink to run the copy function of my printers:  no more hp computers, printers, or pains-in-the-neck.:smileyvery-happy:
