Well it looks as though I now have a Photosmart B110a scanner again, thank you!
However, it was not without problem - when I appeared to get a renewed hope box and options but in eventually shutting it down and reinstalling it over again, as I continued to receive a message that 'scanner could not open a session'!
However, I think that we may have arrived back to normality for which I am grateful.
Over and out (unless there are more issues) !!

Hey guys, any additional updates on drivers for photosmart C4780? Using Mavericks now and wish I wasn't. I can scan via alternate methods you suggest but its less than ideal. Can anyone approximate when the drivers will be available? By Thanksgiving? By Festivus? Please keep me in the loop.

Thanks for this link! Very useful.
I have been on and off trying for weeks to scan using an HP C7280 with my new MacbookAir with OS Mavericks and I could not get it to work. No issues with printing, just with scanning.
Never realised I could scan using Preview. Just tried and it works really well.
Thanks!
Madeleine

Follow-up. Uninstalled the HP software for both my C4280 and C4680 AIOs, reinstalled the HP_Installer_Photosmart 4200_Full_Group01_10.3 and PS_AIO_05_C4600_NonNet_Full_Mac_WW_108 updates (have dmg copies on hand), and reinstalled the HPPrinterDrivers2.14 update while booted into Snow Leopard where HP Scan wouldn't work (along with Mavericks). Those restored HP Scan's functionality. I won't reinstall the HPPrinterDrivers2.16.1 update and will await Apple's next HPPrinterDrivers update. Next on the agenda is to do the same on my Mavericks volume and see if that fixes the problem.

I wrote about my problem with the scanner of HP Officejet Pro L7590 on 29th October, a month ago. Today, I have the same problem.
I waited a month to decide, and today I can say that HP has lost a customer.
Something has to change to return to HP.
