I have a Deskjet 3056A which is having the same problem with Mavericks. Because the CD that came with the program isn't compatible with anything above 10.6, I can't install it which means I have absolutely no scanning software on my MacBook Pro. Preview, Image Capture, and Print & Scan will not work at all to scan and import images.
I hate having to use my old, slow Toshiba laptop just to scan pictures. If anyone has a workaround, I would appreciate it!

I read your suggestion about the problem related to the impossibility do save the scanned documents on Mavericks.Unfortunately no option of the reported suggested by you gives a good result. It is impossible to save ANY document with ANY of the possible options on the driver wizard. I tried everything but with no result. It is IMPOSSIBLE to save ! If HP do not consider to search for the incompatibility of its last driver with the updates content in OSX Mavericks there's no more possibility to use the scanner.
I'm considering to buy a new printer of another supplier.
Let me know something.
Do not forget the this problem is going on since several months !!!
Thanks

Really don't think HP cares about us. Spent a hour on the phone today with Apple. They informed me that if and when HP sends them drivers addressing our scanning issues they will include them in updates. My photosmart C4780 is an older unit from 2009 I believe and it works fine except for the scanning issues. I am being forced by HP's lack of communication or action to purchase a new all in one. Needless to say it won't be an HP. In fact I have spoken to numerous friends and colleagues and told them about my woes. I have directed them to theis thread. Most have agreed that they will join me in boycotting HP products. consider whether or not HP cares about you after they get your money? Consider the cost of ink? I am looking into other options. I wish you all well with dealing with HP. I for one have sworn off them for life and am doing everything in my power to convince others to do the same. Guys if we all do this we can make a difference.
good luck

How do I use Image Capture with my HP ScanJet 4890?
None of the other options will work for me.
I continue to get that message.
Thank you.
Image Capture does not recognize my scanner.

Image Capture does not recognize my Scanjet 4890 or I would use it. Output is black screen with grey lines from HP software. Latest software/driver on support page is from 2011. Scanner was working under Mac 10.8. Just putting this in here so you don't forget we want an update.

I tried to do what you suggested. But , I'don't Know if I mistook something, but the result is always the same: you see on the screen the correct image, but when you inspect the saved image in the folder , it is corrupted. Please can you repeat step to step what you do? I'll try again.
Thanks
Fabrizio
