Thank you for your reply, but it isn't obvious to me how to do that. I don't see any way in the printer utility to reset anything. Can you provide more details? I

Well sure.  I download the User Guide manual for you.  I read it.   And it says on page 89 how to reset the printer back to Network defaults.    You did read the User Guide manual right????

I reset back to the default network setting and then attempted to re-install the HP software from the CD. When it got to the step to setup the printer for wireless operation, the HP software "unexpectedly quit."

Now what?

HP Recommended

Do no use the CD.

Download and install the full featured software and drivers from the HP web site.

I tried that a long time back, but it says to just use the MAC os to install drivers etc. This is the message on the web site.

"

Installing Your HP Printer Driver and Software for Mac OS X

Install the HP Printer Driver and Software provided within your operating system.  "

HP Recommended
Sorry I'm not a MAC person. Suggest you follow those instructions.
HP Recommended

Well those instructions just installed the printer driver, which was already installed, but nothing else. That's why I went back to the original CD. I also tried the printer utility in the mac OS, but it did not offer the option for changing the SSID.

so that's what get me to this forum.

Thanks for your suggestions, but I'm still stuck.

Let's back up a bit. How are you trying to connect the printer? I am assuming it is to your router correct? Or are you trying to use the printer Wireless direct feature?
HP Recommended

No, I can't connect to the router because the printer has an old ssid, as I said. I'm trying to change that ssid so I can connect to my new wireless. . So I have to temporarily use a usb cable.

HP Recommended

OK, just wanted to be sure. Did you follow the instructions on page 57 of the User Guide???

Change from a USB connection to a wireless connection (Mac OS X)????
