How doI change wireless printer network setting (SSID) - following change of wireless router?

Hi gearoid,

Usually from printer front panel, restore network defaults-

Navigate to the Wireless>Settings menu and select Restore Network Defaults>Yes.

Now connect your printer to the new router-

Navigate to the Wireless>Settings menu and select Wireless Setup Wizard>Yes.

Select your router from the list and enter the proper passphrase.

From your computer, rediscover the newly connected printer.

Click Start menu>All Programs>HP>printer model>Printer Setup & Software

Add or Connect a New Printer. Follow the software instructions to connect the printer.

I have a 3050 deskjet.  For some reason my home IP address changed itself from "home" to "linksys" and now my printer will not respond. Says it is disconnected. How to I make it respond to the new address?  I changed nothing, by the way, it just happened.  All other devices work fine.

Hi monap,

It seems your wireless network name has been changed inadvertently from "home" to "linksys" by you or someone you may know. This will definitely break the wireless network connection profile stored on your printer that was previously working before the change. It sounds as though your wireless router was reset to factory defaults by pressing the reset button on the router or from inside the router web interface.

It is recommended to set a WPA2 security passphrase on your router for network security purposes as well as a unique network name (SSID) for your router. If you need help with setting up your router please let me know.

Once your oruter is all set,

Here is a  way you can reconnect the printer to your router:

-Restore network defaults inside the wireless menu on the printer front panel.
-From your computer, connect wireless to the printer's network (it should be a name similar to HP-Setup-xx-Deskjet 3050A J611).
-After successfully connecting to the printer, open your web browser and type in 192.168.223.1 in the addressbar and press enter.
-Click on Wireless Setup Wizard
-Select your router and enter the password to connect the printer to the router.

Rerun the printer software from your computer (Start>All Programs>HP>Deskjet3050A>Printer Setup & Software>ConnectNewPrinter>Wireless) to rediscover the printer over the network.

Hi, Herculean, thank you for responding. I forgot to mention I have an Apple, we don't do wizards...  I do need help setting up, I am a total moron.  I suspect this would be easy for someone with brains.  Pretend I am 2.  No, make that 1.  I think the printer is already at default, it's the router I guess that has dropped a stitch, as when I click on my bars I have only the linksys as a network.

1.  So I clicked Defaults on the printer and restored my factory setting, and it tells me it is Not Connected....?

Not a problem at all. Are you using a Macbook or an iOS device?

Let's setup your router first:
1. Connect an Ethernet cable from your Mac to a numbered port on the back of your Linksys router. If you dont have an Ethernet port on your device, connect to linksys from the wireless network settings menu or bars.
2. Once connected, open up Safari or any other web browser and type in 192.168.1.1 in the addressbar and press enter.
3. Type in admin for the username and admin for the password.
4. Navigate to the Wireless Settings section.
5. Change the network name (SSID) to something more unique.
6. Apply/Save settings. (after this step, if not connected by Ethernet cable, you will have to wirelessly reconnect to the network with the new network name)
7. Navigate to the Wireless Network security section.
8. Change network encryption to WPA or WPA2 and enter a passphrase of a minimum of 8 characters.
9. Apply/Save settings.
10. Write down the new network name and password for future use.

Please let me know once you are finished with these steps.

Thanks

Hi, Herculean:

OK, I changed the name of my liksys back to home, I am connected to the printer by a cable, the printer is at it's default setting. Now what do I do?  I apologize for being so dumb.  You may note I skipped the password setting, that's not something I want to worry about right now. I just need my printer to work.  I appreciate your patience.

Hi monap,

If you connect using USB cable keep in mind you wont be able to use some of the printer's web functions such as ePrint and Web apps. But if you don't have a need for these services, go ahead and choose the USB setup option with the latest HP software found here:

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-search.html?tab=1#/qryterm=deskjet%203050&searchtype=s-002

Once you run the installation software, choose either the USB or wireless option to connect your printer to the Macbook.

Let me know how it goes.
