I've opened the advice page on how to scan using Windows vista. However I don't know the IP address and don't understand the instructions as to where I can find this

I've also used the scan doctor but I get the message that it's not connected which it clearly is as I can print from the computer

If you go to Page 6 of this User Guide, it will tell you how to print a Network Configuration page. That will have the IP address on it to assist you in continuing your troubleshooting 🙂
