HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One-Prin

I cannot access the web with my HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-one-printer. Diagnostic results: "This printer is currently configured with a DNS server address that cannot be accessed...." It further says, "You can...change the IP address type from 'manual' to 'automatic' so that these settings can be provided automatically by the network." Although I have changed it to automatic. I still am unable to print. My diagnostic says my local network is connected, the Gateway is configured and accessible. The DNS is configured but accessibility failed. Web services are enabled. What should I try next??? Thank you.

Hi@RichThay47,

Thanks for stopping by HP Support Forums.

I came across your post and would like to help.

Need assistance in fixing the DNS error on your PC. Is that, correct?

I recommend you to try the steps below and check if that solves the issue.

  • Open "Network and Sharing Center" (you can search for this from the Vista start menu)
  • Under tasks, click "Diagnose and repair"
  • If that fails you can try...  [This will use the NETSHell utility to RESET your network interface (removes any static configurations and sets to DHCP)]
  • Open a command prompt (you can also search for this from the Vista start menu, if you have UAC enabled, you'll have to start it as Administrator)
  • From command prompt type:  NETSH INTERFACE IP RESET RESET.LOG
  • If you still have problems, try to post your IPCONFIG /ALL, HOSTS file, and ROUTE PRINT to this forum.

How to:

IPCONFIG /ALL

  • Open command prompt and type:  IPCONFIG /ALL
  • To save the output to a file simply type from the command prompt:  IPCONFIG /ALL > filename.txt
  • Your HOSTS file is located in the following path  (the HOSTS file does not have an extension, it's just named "HOSTS"):
  • %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS
    • or
  • C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\ETC\HOSTS

Hope the solution answers your query. Feel free to reply back for more.
