HI Folks

I recently purchased the HP Envy 4500 but I can't for the life of me get it to print labels. It's Christmas Card time again, I have all the labels stored on my PC but I can't find a match - I can't find any reference at all to let me print address labels on my printer. I'm using standard avery 63.5mm x 33.9mm x 24 or Code: L6146 / L4773. I've been onto customer support and after an hour they couldn't help either. Is there a solution or are there HP address labels out there that I can buy to save me handwriting loads and loads of addresses - bah humbug and all that 🙂

Your help will be greatly appreciated

Eulum (the complete newbie)

Hello eulum,

Welcome to the HP Forums.

I see that you are having an issue when attempting to print Labels.  Just so you are aware, label printing is not supported.  I realize that you have contacted support but is this support for HP or for Avery.  Just in case, here is the link for Avery Support.

Thanks for your time.

Thanks very much for the reply and apologies for responding so late. Work seems to take over your life at times!

I'm really frustrated re this issue but will happily try Avery support

Again many thanks

  1. In MS-Word, set the Page Layout (tab) Size to Labels 8.5x11
  2. In (Windows) Devices and Printers > HP Envy > Printer Preferences > Set Preferences > Paper Quality (tab),
    1. Set Paper Size to Letter
    2. Set Media to Other specialty papers
    3. Advanced (button) > Borderless Printing: Print Borderless

Label printing is not supported? The sales text from HP says it is. Personally, I have never gotten label printing to work on the Envy 4500. The printer or the driver scales the output and the label text never lines up.

The key thing to note is the word "borderless".    The nice Avery label template already includes all the margins needed to match the Avery label page, but the nice ENVY then adds more borders, and scales everything to fit on that space.   In this case, the smart printer does something less smart 🙂

I printed labels from a MacBook Air using boarderless 8 1/2 x 11 printing and it worked perfectly!  I did not need a template from Avery or anything.  Thank you for your help!
