I have not seen an acceptable answer to this question. Is there one forthcoming. This thread seems to be very old and the only thing HP is hoping for is users get tired of garbage printers and go to the store and forget they had an HP and buy another one because they used to be good. Is there any competancy at HP left? Lets see an answer, this issue has persisted for years.

vinay2 that link goes to a download for Firmware 20150212. Isn't that the version from February 12, 2015?
After I deploy that to printers, HP Web Jetadmin complains that those printers have outdated Firmware and wants to update to 20150410 again.

Having the same issue with our 401n, even after updating to firmware 20160224.
I also tried the TELNET suggestion with no luck. There is no "keep alive" setting i could find.
I find it hard to accept that a "never sleep" option is not available on these new printers.
Is this another push by the govt to strong arm HP and other companies to reduce energy usage?
I'm just wondering because I've already spent far too much wasted energy on this issue now!
Anyone have a solution that works? [Personal Information Removed]

It's basically due to this Make/Model of printer (and that they went away from the LJ P2055's) that we stopped buying HP printers.
The inability to turn off the Sleep mode is brutal. Especially when the printer won't wake up from Sleep mode.
We have a M401dn (w/ LCD) and an M401n (w/o LCD). Both printers now have the "20160224" FW U/D. Before that it was the "20150410" FW U/D. I believe that U/D actually helped the M401n (w/o LCD) and some of its issues.
With the 2 most recent FW U/D's the M401n (w/o LCD) has become mostly tolerable. I think it might actually be a bit better about waking up.
However, the M401dn (w/ LCD) seems to ignore the EcoSMART settings. I've installed the most recent FW U/D for this model of printer, and yet it still goes into Sleep mode after about 5 minutes and then into Standby mode some undetermined amount of time later -- which then requires manual user intervention to "wake it the heck up".
It doesn't matter how many times I go into the Web Interface or directly at the LCD and set the Sleep mode to kick in after 1 hr (there really should have been a 4-hr or Never option), the M401dn (w/ LCD) still goes into Sleep mode after about 5 minutes.

Unfortunetly, even if USB worked, that negates the entire reason for buying a networked printer.
I have the Pro 401DN. I did not have this problem for two years after buying the printer, however after it ran the 2016 firmware update a few months ago, it is now happening. Super frustrating... I want to roll back but I don't see how that's possible. HP removes all links to the older firmware files and the printer has no auto-downgrade.
My symptoms: I can wake the printer using the display, but it doesn't always allow print jobs when I do. When I power off and on, queued jobs start printing. Also, sometimes the printer will go to sleep with the power light flashing, and in this state it seems to work normally. Other times, the power light will be solid and the printer won't wake.
