Hi VKPK,

I am still working with the FW developer teams to identify the root cause. I have not forgotten about the customers having this issue. Please continue to be patient while I am working on this issue.

I am an HP employee.

I just downloaded this driver update to install this printer on a new client's computer. As you can imagine, I'm furiously staring at a bricked M1212nf.

It has been 6 months since **this thread** was started that identified the source of these problems as a forced (and broken) firmware update within the DRIVER package distributed by HP for this product. There is NO option to de-select the firmware installation within this driver package.

HP staff are aware of the problem (and have been responding on this thread for over 2 months. Yet, the problematic driver package is still being distributed without any warning. This is fraud and intentional abuse.

to pcwizard :

So you know there's problem in HP firmware update file..why do you still set the trap in your server the firmware updating.

I found instructions for a hardware reset on another forum:
1. Power down
2. Press <right> and <cancel> buttons together
3. Power up during pressing these Buttons

This method does attempt to purge the disk while booting, but doesn't prevent the initialization loop that the driver package created. IOW, it's still broken.

I am yet another victim of this issue.... spent much time on phone with support with no resolution.  I hope HP will see this issue through to resolution.  I would rather not have to purchase another printer.

Please contact me as well as soon as you have a solution.

It appears that HP is aware of the problem, but they have no idea why it happens - it worked fine in the lab, so why the real life is different?

They don't know how many of different versions of the printer firmware have been distributed by Chinese manufacturer and which of them is not compatible with the downloaded "doomed update", so they leave the faulty program on the site deliberately, to get more material for research.

So, guys, please keep damaging your printers and tell the HP how frustrated you are and tell them the version of firmware and date of manufacturing, so they can put the data in the spreadsheet...

One day they may figure out that 90% of the printers sold are NOT COMPATIBLE and the update is improper for them.

Until then, think of alternative solution.

My printer just test out for 3 pages then I download firmware update.... 30 minutes later, my printer die.

Now I got my own solution: I Order new one , take the printer then put the dump one in box and return. Now forget about update.

I am an HP reseller for over 25 years now.  I was reinstalling a PC for a client and downloaded the full package drivers for the M1212nf.  It installed fine and at the end forced a firmware update to the prnter.  The printer rebooted and is now stuck in an "initializing loop"  I have tried all options to cold reset, and others found on this forum.  I called HP support and was told the obvious "the printer is out of warranty" !  I explained that it worked fine before the update and they really don't care.  They want us to pay for a fix, (which they don't have) and waste our time on the phone trying to understand their "techs" for over an hour only to offer us a "better deal on another fine HP product?

I service / sell, well over $150,000 of their printers each year.

No more.  I will push any other manufacturers products to my customers.  I cannot believe their arrogance toward any user in this situation.  Plus, they still have the software on the site to {Content Removed} any other poor slob who, like most of us only wanted to reload a PC and printer driver.

{Content Removed} No wonder they are in such a dire financial situation!

Now I can go tell my client what happened to their printer and we will look for another brand printer to replace it.

Granted this is a low end printer, but it will cost them sales on many higher end units from now on.

Howdy All,

I had the same problem which everyone else seems to have on this thread ("Initialising..." -> "Genuine HP Installed" -> blank -> loop) and I actually tried this <right> & <cancel> fix and surprisingly it actually worked. I'm not sure whether it is (probably) just a fluke but the problem so far seems to be fixed for me
