I have the 6500 wireless printer (e709n model).  When I connect my printer to my home network it kicks all other devices that are connected offline (laptops, desktops, ipad, ipods, etc.).  If I turn the printer off and reset the modem then all those devices can connect again but the printer isn't.   I've tried numerous times and each time the printer is turned on and connected to the router I have the same result.  I am using a Net Gear router (model N900).  Anyone seen this before?

Describe the steps you are taking to connect to your Netgear N900 router.

Settings ->  Wireless Network Setup -> Network Setup Wizard

Then I chose my wireless network and enter the passphrase.

It tells me it connected successfully but then all my other devices get kicked off the network.

The printer itself does not have the ability to disconnect devices from a wireless network.

Try these steps.  They may have been done before or in a different order, but this can help a lot with general network issues.

1.  Power off the printer.

2.  Disconnect the power to the router for 1 minute.

3.  Reconnect the power to the router and wait for the lights to return to normal (30 seconds to 1 minute).

4.  Power the printer on.

5.  Reconnect to the network.

What this will do is reinitialize the hardware and the software responsible for network communications in the router and the printer.

This did not solve the problem.  The printer is still kicking all my other devices offline.  Could it be an IP address conflict or something like that?

I believe something else is happening.  The printer itself is incapable of disconnecting other devices from the router.

I suspect something else is happening at the router level when the printer is being connected.

If you could, respond with the following information go get a better idea of what may be happening.

1.  What brand and model is the router?

2.  Have you tried using an Ethernet cable instead of wireless?  If you have an Ethernet cable available, seeing what happens when it is connected will help isolate the problem.  If you do decide to use an Ethernet cable, be certain to reset the printer in the tools menu to clear any WiFi settings as the printer can only have one network connection at a time.

3.  How many wireless devices are connected?

I have the same issue and it's definitely the printer kicking off my wireless devices.  I have a hp cm1415fnw printer. A couple iPads, a nook, and two hp laptops. If the printer is on I can not connect my wireless devices.  I was able to connect all the devices beforeturning on the printer.  When I turn it on,all the devices except the lap tops normally get kicked off.  I had one exception with one of my iPads being able to stay connected.  The laptops stayed connected, but we're taken to work.  When brought home they were unable to connect.  The router is a centurylink router.  The printer is hooked up to a desktop with a USB cable and the laptops with wifi.  I have also been unable to set up web services with the printer unable to reach the Internet.  I have rebooted many times, tried staticip addresses, changed the wireless channels, and also tried to connect the printer using wps but that also fails to connect to the router using hps.

Hi Folks,

You might want to check out this thread which was an accepted solution regarding the N900: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Networking-and-Wireless/What-would-cause-my-C309-to-stop-intern...

Herculean,

Thanks for sharing that post.

Definitely some great tips.

That was the direction I was headed in and hope it resolves the issue at hand.

Another step that can help is to set a static IP address in the printer itself.  The steps for this can be located by clicking on Support & Drivers at the top of this page and entering your product model.  Once the support page for your printer loads, select Solve a Problem and then Wireless Networking.  The steps should be located in a document that is titled Printer Does Not Maintain a Wireless Connection (wording may be slightly different).

The trick here is to either leave the DNS servers blank or to use Google's public DNS servers (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) instead of the router as a DNS server.  I have seen this resolve similar issues, though they are rare.

I have the exact same, or similiar issue, HP 6700 wireless printer repeatedly knocks my

computer off line, and I have to re-boot computer, then back on line, only to re-occur several hours later.

I have now connected the printer to computer with USB, and no problems.    I have had this computer in

other locations with wireless HP printers, and no problems.

Something specific to HP 6700 and my system.   HP techs have not been able to resolve, a real PIA.
