Officejet 6500A Plus The black cartridge will not print. I put in a new cartridge, so there is
ink. The printer is working, because the other colors print. It was working fine and when
printing, the black slowed down and now does not work at all.

I called tech support. Megan was very helpful in walking me through the steps to
clean the printhead. Unfortunately, the black cartridge still did not print. I have
ordered a new printer, the 6700. I appreciate Megan's help and will be glad to
have a new printer.

Hello, Em70.
The first thing I would try is cleaning your printhead from the front panel. Use the right arrow on the right hand side of your front panel to get to setup. Under setup, scroll down until you find tools. Go to clean printhead. There are multiple levels of cleaning that can be done under this option. You can also align the printer, which may help.

First of all, I'm sorry you're having issues. I would start with this document. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02455482
This will have all of the steps we normally do on a technical support call. If this does not resovle your problem, you may need a printhead replacement. The printhead is what filters the ink and puts it on the page.

I did the clean printhead - both steps. At the bottom of the page each
time, there were blocks of colors printed. There was nothing above that -
which I am assuming is where the black would have printed. In other
words, I do not think that the black is printing.

With that being said, it does sound like the printhead. There is one other thing I can suggest that is not on the document. You can remove the cartridges and printhead with the printer turned on. Once removed, pull the power cord. Wait a few seconds and plug it back in. The printer will give you a message like "printhead missing or damaged" when you get this, put the printhead and ink back in. Sometime this will reinitiate the ink system.

If the printhead/cartridge reset doesn't work for you, I would suggest calling our tech support. There are great agents like me who answer the calls and can offer you options for another printer discounted with you being a loyal customer.

I am going to diagnose this as a printhead issue. The printhead has malfunctioned and can not filter that black ink to the page. It will need to be replaced or the printer can be replaced.
