Model: HP P1102W wireless

Status: online, no errors.

Connection from the computer works well - I can send print jobs and see them in spool queue.

Operating system: Windows 7 home premium with all updates

Protection: Microsoft security essentials, Windows firewall

Problem description:

After updating HP drivers (yes, the correct ones), when I send a duplex print, the usual popup dialog does not open in order I can continue and print the second side. No workaround. I'm stuck here.

When printer run out-of-paper, I can replace the paper in tray, but the popup dialog does not open in order I can click to continue. Workaround: open tonner door and close, printer start to print again.

Can you please tell me how can I manuall open the dialog to continue printing (in case of usual Windows error that "automatically" closes applications it doesn't like)?

Or there is anything else I can do (perhaphs, I'm testing to uninstall all HP software and install back the original driver that came with the printer)? UPDATE: already uninstalled, and tested with original driver version. Dialog was shown once, not working anymore.

Thanks,

Edson

Hello Edson,

From my understanding, you do not have an option to flip the pages over to duplex print. I found instructions for this in the User Guide. It doesn't say how to access the Preferences however.  To get there, open your Devices and Printers folder and right-click to access the Printing Preferences.  You will see a Finishing tab and the directions from here are on page 48 of the User Guide.  I hope this helps!

The problem is not to start the duplex printing.

The problem is that sometimes the popup window asking to turn the paper in the printer (and then "press Continue") is not opening automatically (as it was during last year!).

The question is: how to open the popup dialog to continue printing the other side...

Did you go into the Printing Preferences and see if it is still enabled?

Thanks for your help!

Yes, I am sure that the option is enabled.

Actually, I keep the double side printing disabled, and then, when I want, I just enable it.

It worked fine until I decided to update the driver. After that, even reversing to the original driver, it is not working anymore.

The double side printing workflow I use is:

1) Prepare the print job (either in Word or Acrobat Reader, doesn't matter), setting the double side printing

2) Put paper in printer

3) Click "Print" button

4) Printer start printing.

5) Popup window is open, asking to turn the paper in printer, and then click continue

6) Turn the paper

7) Click "Continue"

😎 Printer print the other side

The problem is that step "5" above is not happening, so after the first side is printed there is no way to notify the printer that paper is in place for the other side. It should happen automatically.

The only change was the driver update.

I understand now.  Thank you for that information.  I have searched every where for an example of what would cause this to stop working for you and I can not find anything.  I am not sure if I am seeing this in your previous post but how is the printer connected? I would suggest a different USB cord possibly if it was connected that way but that is because I am trying to be creative just in case.

Also, if the printer is not directly in a wall outlet you may want to plug it directly into one for troubleshooting purposes.  This is a very rare problem here.

Have you tried the most recent firmware update (Version: 20130213).  This link is for a Windows 7 64 bit computer.  I suggest to try those two things first while I continue my research into the wireless features such as the embedded web server to see if something turned itself off after you updated the drivers.

Thanks. I'm using wireless connection for a year.
My printer is connected direct to power outlet. Also tryied with a power stabilizer (voltage stabilizer).
Using USB show no problems, but I've 4 computers around the house, and I can't rely on USB connection for all of them.
I can try the firmware update, but now I'm afraid that would make things worse.

I will tell you the honest truth here and let you know that I have taken on the task of informing the users of the LaserJet P1102w about the firmware update and not a single person on the forums has came back to me to let me know it made their problem worse.  I know of one person who could not do the firmware update but the rest have actually been very happy to report back that their problems were fixed.

I also want to make it a point to let you know that firmware does not fix software problems like this.  It is not that this is going to fix the problem you are having with the dialog pop up box not opening.  I suggested this because of how rare this problem is so I want to make sure all of the basic troubleshooting steps are covered first.

Do you have this problem on all of the computers or just the Windows 7 Home premium one discussed in the first link?  If all of the other computers still have this duplex dialogue box then I will want to focus solely on what happened to that computer when this started happening.

Also, I want to make sure I understand your most recent post: did you say when the printer is plugged in USB, you do not have a problem with duplex printing?

I think I am experiencing exactly the same issue. I have three computers around the house connected wirelessly to the printer. Sometimes, the 'continue' dialog which is supposed to be shown after one side of all pages has already been printed just doesn't show up. The printer sits waiting for confirmation, but I find no way to resume the job.

It would be very useful to know if there is a way to manually resume the second part of the duplex printing. It's a shame that you can't resume the print job by pressing a button on the printer.
