Printer M177f
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Scanning via ADF, the document will feed in about a 1/4 page then stop with an error message indicating a paper jam and to clear the jam. The jam is cleared by opening the tray, and jam-access cover and clearing the page. After closing the jam-access cover and tray, OK is pressed, but won't clear the jam message. A hard reboot, unplugging for 60sec will clear the jam message, but loading a document again making sure the screen indicates "document loaded" is on, once again the page will feed about 1/4 page and again stop with indication of a paper jam. The guides are not too tight on a page restricting page movement or bending the page and scanning a fresh flat (no folds or curls) doesn't help. When the tray and jam-access cover are opened, there doesn't seem to be any paper jam. The rollers look ok and free, the gearing/drive looks good, the jam-access cover and tray close ok. This is also an intermittent problem, for instance, once jam indication does clear after opening/closing tray and jam access cover several times, scanning a multi page doc, perhaps 3 or 4 pages will scan no problem, but then on addition page same as above, 1/4 page is fed and stops. In addition, trips for tray close indication is free and clear.

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177f Printer. I understand that you are getting paper jam issue and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

  • Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,
  • Reset the printer,
  • Remove the power cable from the printer when it is turned on.
  • Press and hold the printer power button for 60secs.
  • Connect the printer power cable to printer and directly to wall outlet.
  • Turn on the printer.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.

Thanks Sandytechy20, I haven't tried the tips you gave yet, it makes sense tho because it seems it's an automation issue, not an actual paper jam. I will revert once I return home in about 5 weeks and try this out.
