Hello @Christiaanmk,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you're getting a 'Printer Communication Failed' error message when installing your networked HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw on your Windows 8 computer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this installation issue. Because you were able to install successfully on your first computer, I do not think this is a networking issue. Rather, I believe that there is software on your Windows 8 computer that is 'blocking' your printer from being successfully installed. Software can sometimes deem networked printers as 'threats' trying to gain access to computer and block them. To verify if this issue is being caused by a program on your computer I am going to have you temporarily disable the background programs from running on  your computer and we'll run the install again. Please follow the steps below.

Step 1: Remove Drivers:

Even though the installer is failing with a communication error there is a chance that a portion of the software and driver package for your HP Laserjet made its way onto your computer. For troubleshooting purposes it is crucial that we have a nice clean slate to work with. Therefore, I will be having you remove any trace of your HP Laserjet from your computer prior to running the fix.

  1. Open your Start screen by selecting the Windows icon on the bottom left of your computer screen or by selecting the Windows key on the bottom left of your keyboard to the right of the Ctrl button.
  2. Once the Start screen opens type Programs and Features. Click Programs and Features to launch it.
  3. Under the Programs and Features window scroll down and look for your HP Laserjet. If you see your HP Laserjet click on it and select Uninstall
  4. Close the Programs and Features window.

Once the uninstall is complete please proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Clear Temp Files:

  1. Open your Start screen by selecting the Windows icon on the bottom left of your computer screen or by selecting the Windows key on the bottom left of your keyboard to the right of the Ctrl button.
  2. Once the Start screen opens type Run. Click Run to launch the Run dialogue box.
  3. In the Run box type %temp% and select OK
  4. When the Temp folder opens, select Ctrl + A at the same time on your keyboard. Everything in this folder will now highlight.
  5. Select the 'delete' button on your keyboard. The Temp folder contains temporary internet files. No actual files or folders on your computer will be affected by deleting the Temp files. Should a Temp file still be used than you will automatically get the pop up to 'skip' that item.
  6. Close the Temp folder once it is emptied
  7. Right click the Recycling Bin on your desktop and select Empty Recycling Bin

Step 3: MSCONFIG (Disable):

Next I am going to have you temporarily disable the background programs from running on your computer.

  1. Open your Start screen again by selecting the Windows icon on the bottom left of your computer screen or by selecting the Windows key on the bottom left of your keyboard to the right of the Ctrl button.
  2. Once the Start screen opens type Run. Click Run to launch the Run dialogue box.
  3. In the Run box type msconfig and select OK
  4. When the System Configuration Window opens select 'Selective Startup' and uncheck Load Startup Items
  5. Click the Services tab. Check the box at the bottom for Hide All Microsoft Services
  6. Select Disable All
  7. Select Apply and OK
  8. Restart your computer when prompted

When your computer comes back on please proceed to the next step.

Step 4: Install Device:

  1. Please click here to download the latest drivers for your HP Laserjet
  2. Once the download is complete please follow the onscreen prompts to install your networked printer

Once the installation has completed successfully please test printing to confirm that everything is working fine. If everything installs and functions fine please proceed to the final step to Enable all the background programs on your computer.

Step 5: MSCONFIG (Enable):

  4. When the System Configuration Window opens select 'Normal Startup'
  5. Select Apply and OK
  6. Restart your computer one final time

When your system comes back up with the Normal Startup please test printing again. If printing fails, there is a program on your computer that is still blocking communication when enabled. This is likely due to a Firewall conflict.

Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you! 🙂
