So does the cartridge not have a lasermark on it? (showing the warranty ends date YYYY/MM/DD)?
Is it marked as genuine HP on the sticker that's on the lid of the cartridge?
Do you have any more photos you could share? Just trying to figure out if it's a counterfeit.
Thanks
Ciara

Yes, they both have the HP logo on the cartridge itself

They both look identical but when it is turned, you can see there is a difference

I'm British but live and work in China.
I purchased a cheap HP Deskjet 1000.
The Chinese shop I bought it from only supplied me with "HP 802 Small" ink cartridges.
Knowing these cartridges would only last 3 minutes (or 30 sheets) i asked if i coud buy other cartridges from them. The girl came back with more useless 802 Small Cartridges and told me these cost 120rmb each (£12). I said no no no, I want the bigger ones. The girl didn't understand, she said they didn't have bigger ones and took me into the store room and showed me everything they had.
So i looked online (in China) on taoao.com and such for some 301XL's. I came to the conclusion i couldn't trust that what they were seling were "genuine" HP Cartridges.
So for three months I have a useless HP printer but not to worry i knew i could purchase some "genuine HP Cartridges" back in the UK and bring them back after the Chinese New Year and have my printer up and running again.
WRONG!
My UK bought cartridges are incompatible!
So now I have been punished for trying to buy genuine ink for my HP Printer and the only solution aftr reading these posts is to let some HP employee remote access to my computer.
I DON'T THINK SO...
Why should i let HP install some backdoor on my computer?
Why can't HP make their ink non-region specific?
Making region specific cratridges has clear drawacks:
1) Alienating loyal customers.
2) Loss of revenue because people will get fed up and just purcahse non-genuine instead.
3) Lots of people reccomending not to buy HP products.
Anyway, rant over.
HP won't suffer from me not buying any of their useless products again but poor policies will drive many more away and hopefully they will suffer.
Suggestion:
If someody buys Genuine HP Cartridges then be sure to let them work. Causing problems with region specific compatibilty just makes you look *******.

HP ENVY 4500. I hate hp's--I don't even know why I even bothered buying an hp printer. NOTHING ever works with hp. I put in BRAND NEW ink cartridges and it keeps saying "incompatable print cartridge' and it also keeps saying 'the following ink cartridge must be replaced--the tricolor' I replaced both the black and colored ink with the correct and brand new ink cartridges and IT KEEPS SAYING THE SAME THING!!!

Yes... but did you do a software update for HP in the recent past? That's where I went astray. I used the Costco cartridges for a good while then got the notice that there was a HP software update. Since then... Zip..
