Ok, so I turned off the new router, which is a linksys EA6100, and set up the printer with a static ip address using the wireless signal from the first router, which is an AT&T router (3801-HGV).  (previously I was trying to set the printer up on the linksys router's signal).   FYI, the two routers are not on the same network.  One is on AT&T, the other is on Comcast.  Everything was working fine.  All our wireless devices can find the printer.  As soon as I turn back on the Linksys router, it seems to interfere with the signal from the other router, and the computer can no longer find the printer.  Our wireless devices can still find it, though.  So it can all work if I just unplug the second router to print, but that seems awfully primitive and a pain.

Hi @Carpenter47

Sorry for the delay, I took some time to research this, I wonder if you could create a static IP for the computer and configure it to the same router you have sett he printer up with, then ideally you should be able to have both routers plugged in but no longer lose the connection between the computer and the printer.

Also, when adding the printer to the computer you should be adding it under the default tab not the IP tab. When you use the default tab you will be using the Bonjour protocol which allows printing and scanning. To my knowledge the IP Jet Direct protocol does not allow scanning functionality.

I created a static IP for the computer, but the computer still cannot find the printer.  I set everything up with the Linksys router unplugged.  Everything works fine, including scanning and all the wireless devices - they can all find the printer.  The printer has a static ip address, as does the computer.  As soon as I plug in the Linksys router, the computer can no longer find the printer, although the wireless devices all can, as long as I am on the correct network (the one the printer is on - obviously).  I think the wireless devices could not find the printer before because I was simply on the wrong network.  Perhaps I should just get a ethernet cable and make the computer - printer connection a wired one.

Sunshyn,

I am hoping you are still available to help me out on this.  I got an ethernet cable, but once I plug that in, the wireless function no longer works at all.  This doesn't really work for us, as the kids need to be able to print from their laptops and tablets wirelessly.  I can get everything working fine with the new router not hooked up.  Then as soon as I hook up the Linksys router, the computer can no longer find the printer.  Right now the computer and the printer both have static ip numbers.  Still the computer cannot find the printer once the second router is on.  Thanks.

I am still here 🙂

What if we connect the Ethernet cable from the printer to the second router. This will turn the wireless off on the printer yes, but having it connected to the router means that any device communicating with that router will be able to communicate with the printer.

Thanks for hanging with my Sunshyn.  I'll try that.

Sunshyn,

That did the trick!  Thank you so much!!!!  Everything is working perfectly now.  I have set it all up to work with the new router, and it is all good.
