Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that I'm having exactly the same issue!

Printer: HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless A909g
OS: Windows 8 Pro (64 Bit) updgraded from Windows 7 Pro

My Firmware is: DLM1FN0842BR
Is there any Firmware update?
How do you upgrade the Firmware of the 8500 A909g anyway?

Travis asked me to take this thread over for him.  I am looking into whether there will be a new firmware update or not, but I don't have any new for now.  If I hear something, I'll let you know.

Same issue as everyone here. Scan to network worked fine with Win7, but on Win8 it creates 0KB files.

Dear HP,

Not including the initial release, Windows 8 has been generaly available to the public for 7 months. This thread itself is already 4 months old. Still, there is no fix to what appears to be a minor bug for how your current firmware handles network communication with Windows 8.

An honest thank you for yet another reminder as to why I stopped purchasing your products years ago. As once a great advocator of your company's products, I have had to endure a lot of humiliation or "eating crow". Whether its faulty laptop batteries, cheap power adapters, lack of adaquate cooling, inflated prints per cartridge figures, or just software bugs in gerenal, you continue to prove time and again, that your company is prefectly complacent with the amount of support (or lack thereof) you provide for your product's inabilty to operate correctly or as advertised.

As a CEO, I will continue to do my best whereever possible to ensure that all of your products are not only eventually removed from use within our company, but also prohibited from being purchased in the future.

I was able to scan using Windows 8 and then, for whatever reason, it just stopped working and began giving me these 0kb files?

Like the other users mentioned, I can scan from the solution center but when initiated from the printer, 0kb files!  This includes PDF or JPG (etc.).

Running Win8 Pro, 64bit

I messed with folder permissions, tried eveything, gave the whole world permissions ... started from scratch, tried different folders ... no joy.

HELP HP!!!

Hopefully I can lead you in the right direction if your scans from the printer are producing blank files.

You may want to try a simple uninstall/re-install first if you haven't tried that yet.  If that doesn't work, then try the steps outlined in the link above.  Let me know if you need any assistance with the directions.  it suggests a registry cleaner, so I recommend CCleaner because it gives you the options to back up your system first before running it.

Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" if I helped solve your problem.

I also have this problem SOLVED by updating the Firmware:

My Printer: HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless (A909g)

My OS: Windows 10

How To:

  1. Go to HP's Software & Drivers download page for your HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer.

    In my case (A909g):
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Officejet-Pro-8500-All-in-One-Printer-series---A9...

  2. You won't find the Firmware-download under Windows 10 or 8, so first:

Change Operating System selection to Microsoft Windows 7 and click [Update] button.

  3. Under section Firmware download and run HP Officejet Pro Firmware (version DLM1FN1344AR).

Strange this download can't be downloaded when you select Windows 8 or 10, but in my case it did work and solved the problem.
