My IT guy highly discouraged me from getting another HP. He's recommending a Brother.
My "fix" for the current problem is to use Windows 7 fax and scan. Place the photos on the bed, click new scan, click preview, then I cropped the photo and click scan. It's an extra step from the old HP function but it's working fine.

Hardly "solved." The solution is to return the new HP scanner as garbage and buy one from an manufacturer that does not remove functionality from its software. What a disappointment. I had been a happy HP customer since my first LaserJet in the late 1980s, but I will never buy an HP product again. I suppose next year's new, improved product won't scan or print at all, eh?

I solved this problem long ago by purchasing an Epson V500 flatbed scanner. It does a great job of scanning multiple pictures and saving each one as an idividual jpeg file. I also think the scanned picture quality is better, it's faster, and it has more features than the HP6500A. I still use the HP for print/copy/fax, and it performs those funcions quite well. I bought the Epson V500 at OD on sale for $159. The only negative is that I now have another device on my desk, but that's a small price to pay for improved scan features and picture quality.

That is exactly what I did... Returned it...Purchased an Epson after discussing what I wanted to do online with their support team...They gave me very prompt and concise answers. Very nice dealing with them. Works like a dream.

I solved the problem by purchasing an Epson All In One. $70 at Sam's Club. Does everything I need and only one device on the desktop. Wish the footprint were smaller, but to get a device that works like a dream is worth it. I talked to the Epson support team before I purchased it with the specific question of will it scan to mulptiples if I want it to and they were wonderful to deal with. They were prompt with their answers, concise and actually answered instead of hemming and hawing around. Nice to deal with them. Device works like a charm.

I also was banging my head against a wall trying to figure out why my Deskjet F4280 All-in-One couldn't scan multiple photos at once whereas my wife's Scanjet G4010 could. I wanted to go to an all-in-one unit to get rid of the clutter on my desk which had a printer and a scanner. I believe this is not an 'error' or oversight on HP's part, after all, they are a business. Personally, I think they have removed some of the fantastic functionality from some of their products to add that value to their higher-end products. This would not be the programmers fault, this decision would lie with the business people -- the bean-counters, as it were. Anyway, I like the printer and the extra space it affords me so I will continue to use it and try a couple of the other standalone software products mentioned here. Between my wife and myself we have around 10,000 photos to scan, since besides our own collection, I was given my late aunt's genealogy collection ... it's huge! Thanks, auntie .. I think! 🙂

I quit buying Hewlett Packard Products 10 years ago, This was the newest printer at the store I was shopping at so I thought it would be the best. My lexmark was 10 years ago and would scan multiple pictures with nor trouble or going through 5 steps to save them separately.
This is ridiculous!
Hewlett Packard, why would you backward?

If your printer has a document feeder you can scan each photo (as long as they are the same size) and it will appear as it's own file. Set the size to the size of your photo, stack them in and go! I've been waiting for years for an affordable way to scan batches of photos and specifically got my hp7520 because the document feeder shrinks down to small photo size. I don't know what your printer/scanners are like, but if you can fit the document feeder guides to the size of your photos your problem is solved and you don't have to sit by the computer while it scans!

I have an OfficeJet Pro L7590and I like that the feeder adjusts. Unfortunately will, I'm scanning will photos of all different sizes! I'll try scanning a batch if I ever get to a stack of the same size that I want to scan!
I've been using HP products for over 15 years. I have been happy with most everything until the last few years. We'll between new products that have to be replaced because they're not working properly and reduction in functionality I don't think I'll be purchasing another one.

I have an HP Officejet 6700 Premium. This printer / scanner will not separate multiple scanned photos into separate files as my Canon MP980 did.
If I wanted a printer/scanner that has this capability, which one should I purchase?
tks
Jeff
