I whole heartedly agree with what has been said about this to date. Scanning multiple photos as individual scans was a tremendous feature that I utilized on my previous HP printers. The print head on my C310 went bad and, instead of replacing it, I thought I would "upgrade" to a newer printer model (7520). I am sorely disappointed at this horrible step backwards. After spending over an hour on the phone to get the Print Assistant installed (they had to send me a registry edit), I thought I would be able to use the Print Assistant to do what I could not do from the printer touch screen. I could not. The service rep on the phone said I should have done more research on the features of the printer. Then, they told me I need to get some other software. Excuse me? I am not a happy camper. I want the old features back!

This answer is a bit late, but I had a similar problem just recently.
I found out that AutoSplitter will replace the lost functionality in HP drivers. This program will recognize your photos in your scan and separate them. It will also rotate them to vertical/horizontal position, so a lot of time will be saved!

Unfortunately it is just not a feature in the new software. There may be a third party software that can do this for you, but I do not know one off the top of my head.
Sorry,
Kyle

"
1. Place your multiple photos on the glass.
2. Scan to JPG
3. Select the crop to one of the photos.
4. Click to add a page.
5. Crop to the second photo.
6. If you have more than two photos on the glass, do steps 3 and 4 until all the photos are on a 'page'.
7. Click the save button and assign a name, the photos will all be saved into separate files."
step 4 .. what am I clicking to add a page .. there is nothing for me to add pages when I am scanning from the glass .. 😕
why in the world would they remove the feature to scan mulitple photos into files from the software? Seriously with more and more people scanning photos .. to add to my frustration when I went to upgrade to this printer I specifically asked about this feature and was told in fact that it was able to do this .. HP is not the only company out there to provide this kind of printer .. more and more people are going to go else where if HP doesn't create an update to add this!

Given the united dissatisfaction with the lack of auto detection software, how do we as users escalate this issue to HP? It's not like we're waiting for the technology to be invented... the modifications are old school common capabilities.
Feel duped for buying a photo printer/scanner with a paper/photo feeder that is hyper-sensitive to standard photo paper thickness and jams 50% of the time on the thinnest paper weight. Plus doesn't offer auto photo frame detection from the flatbed scanner.
As a small business owner, I cannot afford the time, cost of lost productivity, additional personnel fees to manually do a job that we've used automation to handle for years or endure and project delays. This is a classic consumer bait and switch that class action law suits were designed address to help protect consumers and reclaim investments when product marketing oversells actual feature functionality.
I'm not an attorney or litigious by nature, I'm just scanning photos for a project at 11 PM, because I trusted product literature and invested $400+ on essential equipment that doesn't do what it claims. Sigh... :}

This does work. I did not use add page. I did a prescan the selected one photo at a time with the borders and then scanned it. Since the photos have all ready been scanned it will save one photo at a time. I hope tis helps.
I do agree that this is a big step backwards. I also do genealogy and scan a lot of documents and photos. I may just bring out my older HP all-in-one for all the photos I have to scan. Big step backwards.

I made the mistake of buying two of these printers. The majority of my leisure time is spent loading box loads of family photos and business photos into my old HP Officejet 6500. It broke and I rushed to buy two new HP Officejet 6700 to continue my projects at home and the office. Well, little did I know that the wonderful feature on the previous HP printers would not be available on this model. Now I cannot scan multiple photos in a single scan where the program segregates the images for saving.
WHAT A PIECE OF GARBAGE HP~~~

Yep, I'm another grandma trying to scan thousands of photos for posterity aand have the same issue! I hate the thought of having to buy ANOTHER unit because I have spent thousands on HP products and I'm am getting fewer benefits. If I do break down and get another oner it woon't be an HP!
