I 'm having this same proplem as many others who have posted:  server connection error: 403.    Everything worked fine until a few days ago and now nothing that I do makes it possible for me to scan on my Photosmart 6520.  Please e-mail me  those instructions to fix this.

So sorry it took me this long to reply.

It was the link recommended by Terrel . I will search and get back to you. If every other things work fine, but scan to email is the only issue, it should resolve it.

This is the bit I can recall.
On the panel on the printer, go to network.
Try to to bring it to default setting by removing the network.
Then add it again after it gives you another code that should expire in 24 hours.

The steps that Sherifat is giving you is known as a hard reset.  I have included a document on how to do this.

I also have this error 403. Please send reset help. I have had the 5524 model for a few months..used to work fine, but now it sporadically comes up with this message.
I also cannot add "computer" to scan to. The software is installed on my Mac but how do I enable "scan to computer" via the prinetr software?
What is the difference between photosmart 5524 and 5520..??

Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I understand that you are unable to scan to computer. 

 

I have included a document on how to scan from a Mac using Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.  It walks you through how to scan from your Mac to the computer using the HP Scan software that you would have received when you installed the full feature software and drivers.  You will find the instructions under the section "Scan with HP Software" and please choose "Method two: Scan with HP Utility".   Just in case you are running Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks I have included the document on how to scan with it.

 

There are no functional differences between the Photosmart 5520 and Photosmart 5524.  One of the models could have been a vendor-exclusive model (for example, a Sam's Club, Best Buy, or Wal-Mart etc specific model) or it could be a model that is marketed to a different location of the world (for example an European or Pacific Rim model).
