I am trying to scan to email When I try it now it uses Outlook as the default email. I want to change the default to gmail. I have a HP officejet 4620 and am running windows 7  premier home addition. The out look is very intermittent and unreliable. Please help.

Thanks michpole. The difficulty you will run into is finding another Email client. Gmail itself is a web based email provider, and not an actual program (client). There are a few programs you can install, here is the Gmail support page in configuring email clients to use with Gmail.

Once you find a replacement Email client, you can use this document to set it as the default client.

Here is a Microsoft article explaining how to set another email client as default:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows-vista/change-the-default-e-mail-program

If this becomes too complex, you can always just scan the document and save it as a file to your computer, and then attach it to a new email.

I have a gmail account which I use frequently. I have been trying to scan then email a document and get the message "this document is not associated with an email account. Go to default programs in control panel ..."  I have no idea how to do this?  Can anyone help please.

Similar problem. Have a HP Officejet Pro 8625 e-All-in-One Printer. Cannot scan to email without getting a message that scan to print will not work with an Internet email application. I downloaded Windows Live Mail and loaded my email of xxxxxx@oitlook.com. Emails through Live Mail work but I still get the message that the 8625 cannot work with an Internet based email application. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

I finally solved my problem by buying an HP Envy 7640 printer and the printer does everything for you including sending the emails straight to your computer for sending.  Fantastic printer - cost $99.00 CDN

If you want to use Windows Live mail to handle your scanned files, look for it in Default programs and set it to be the default for all things it can do. email handler default.PNG

If you want Gmail to be the default, create the setting in Google chrome. Go to settings under that little three line icon at the top right of Chrome, and type handler in the Search field. Click content settings, then Manage Handlers and finally, in Protocol handlers, set the Site to mail.google.com and click Done. email handler default chrome settings.PNG
