I tried this but I get that the software is not available from the Software Update Server. Help is appreciated, and I need to figure out how to add the printer back and get the scan functioanality to be consistent.
Thanks,
Dale

The only way I could get the 8600 scan to work with my MacBookPro was on the MacBookPro got to Preferences, Network. Select location statis IP and set a static IP address that will work for your network (mine is 192.168.1.99).
Then use the printer setup to set the shared folder and use this static IP address for the computer.
When I need to scann, I go into Network preferences and select this static IP address, scan the document, and then set the Network back to automatic.
Not the best, but workable.

Try this:
Make sure that the Full Feature Software is installed
Open HP Utility
Go to Scan to Computer
Enable Scan to Computer and Apply Changes
--If Scan to Computer can't be enabled try this:
---Disable Scan to Computer from HP Utility
---Enable Scanner Sharing (Go to System Preferences>Go to Sharing>Check Scanner Sharing)
---Power Cycle Devices (Mac Off>Printer Off>Router Off, wait for 2 minutes>Power on Router, wait for 2 minutes>Power on Mac>Power on Printer)
---Go to HP Utility
---Enable Scan to Computer again

The "scan to computer" feature works for me. However, it places the scan in the root folder. If you want the scan to be placed say in a folder called Scans, the "scan to network folder" feature is more challenging. One would think that if the printer can find my computer, it could find a folder on my computer. But I have not been able to get it to find it using the form computer name/folder, where the computer name is the same as it recognizes in "scan to computer". Using the form IP address/folder does not work as the IP address of the computer on my network can change. So to get "scan to network folder" feature to work, I had to set up a static IP address as I described in the previous post.

Hi drzahidimran,
I understand that you are wanting to setup the scan to computer feature with Mac OS X 10.6.8. First thing that I would like to confirm with you is, with your 8600 are you able to make a black/white as well as a color copy with the printer?
If you are able to make the photocopy with the printer the next step would be to make sure that we are able to scan using the hp software. I have included a link <here> for using the HP Scanning Software.
If you are able to scan using the software with no issue please follow this <link> for troubleshooting steps on correcting any Connection Errors or No Computer Detected error messages.
Please let me know if this has resolved the issue.

Have two HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Scanners at different locations and am using MacAir book wireless network to try to scan into my computer, but the hp scan utility only recognizes the HP Multifunction Printer in one location, which is not where I am. Therefore, unable to scan. Not problem with print. I have set the system preference for correct default printer, which, for some reason, is not recognized by hp scan utility. Further, hp scan utility won't let me add the proper HP Multifunction Printer to its queue. Any suggestions much appreciated as want to send contract to USA in next seven hours!?

Hi GM12345,
I understand that from one of your Office jet 8600 you are unable to scan to computer. I have included a document here 'A 'Connection Error' of 'No Computer Detected' Error Message Displays during Scanning'.
If the document does not resolve the issue a few other steps that you can try are:
1. Click on the Apple Icon
2. Click on System Preferences
3. Click on the folder called Sharing
4. Make sure that your Mac has a name
If these steps do not resolve the issue please let me know the full model number of your printer. I have included a document 'How Do I Find My Model Number?'.
Please let me know how this works out for you, thank you.
