Hi balthusar,
I would like to help you be able to print form your new shiney Mac
Please use the following document to help troubleshoot the issue. 'Unable to find printer' Error Message Displays on the Computer During a Wireless Network Installati...
I know you have 10.9.2, you can click on the 10.8 Mountain Lion for the appropriate steps that also apply to 10.9. I believe the root cause of the issue is specific to the router. Although the printer and Windows computer communicate well, the Mac may not be able to if the router is not set to work with Bonjour. Bonjour is a technology that is built into Mac OS and iOS. This technology discovers devices such as printers that are installed on the same network as a Mac or Apple mobile device. Bonjour is the default method for discovering devices on a network. This document will cover these details and help resolve the issue.
please let me know if this resolves the issue, thanks.

I just bought a OfficeJet 6100 so I can use airprint and print from my iPhone and iPad. I've spent 3.5 hours trying to connect the 6100 to my wireless network. But I am unsuccessful. I've reset the network, printers, devices 3 times. I've hooked up the my macbook pro via USB to the printer to install the driver. no success. The network is just not recognizing the printer.
Please help!
Thank you,
michael

Hi SteveJobs,
I can certainly help you with this.
If you have a 10.9 Mac OS X on the Mac, there is no full feature software and driver; therefore, you will not be able to use the Setup Assistant to configure the printer. There is another way to configure the printer, please use the steps below to get the printer on the network.
- If you have Mac 10.8 download and install the software > HP Officejet Pro Full Feature Software and Driver - Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
- If you have Mac 10.5, 10.6, or 10.7 download and install here > HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver - Mac OS X 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7
- For 10.9, we will restore the network defaults and set the printer up in a round about way, proceed with the next few steps to get it setup.
- Press and hold Wireless button and Cancel button for three seconds
- Put the Mac on the printers network. Click on the air port symbol on the top left side of the Mac screen, and choose the network that looks relative to the printer (might say HP setup or some variation).
- Print the network configuration page from the printer control panel, press and hold the Resume button, and then press the Wireless button
- Locate the printers IP address
- Return to the computer, open Safari, enter the IP address in the URL bar (address bar)
- The Embedded Web Server will open.
- Click on the network tab, on the left click on wireless or 802.11, at this point we are looking fore "start wizard" should be on the right hand side.
- Once we have successfully configured the printer for your network you can put your computer back on your network.
Now both the printer and the computer are on the same network and you can add the printer to your System Preferences.
With the printer on the network, your iPad and iPhone will see it so long as they are also on the same WiFi network
If you do not have 10.9 and you have downloaded and installed the software from step 1 or 2, you can simply follow the onscreen instructions Choose to install the recommended software not the minimum). After the software installs it will automatically open the Setup Assistant, you will need to choose the option to configure the printer for the Wireless network.
If you have any difficulty printing from the iPad or iPhone use the following document, open the link and click on 'What if a 'No AirPrint Printers Found' message displays on my Apple device?' How to Use Apple's AirPrint Over a Wireless Network.
Please let me know if you require or would like additional assistance, thanks. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your help. A few questions regarding your instructions:
- Put the Mac on the printers network. Click on the air port symbol on the top left side of the Mac screen, and choose the network that looks relative to the printer (might say HP setup or some variation). How do you put the Mac on the printer's network? Do I go back to system preferences/printers and scanners (on my mac). I don't see the 611 on the wifi network.

Hi SteveJobs,
Let's try again, hold down the wireless and cancel button but this time for 5 second. when you release the buttons check to see if the wireless light is blinking or if it is off. I can't help but wonder if the wireless radio is turning off as a part of the reset. If the light is off and not blinking, press just the wireless button, that should turn it back on.
To put the Mac on the printers network, click on the airport or WiFi symbol on the top right near the date and time, the drop down will show a list of all of the available networks. You should see something there related to the printer. It might say Officejet, HP Setup, HP 6100, or some sort of variation of the name.
Let me know if this works.

It should blink. Blinking means the wireless radio is on, off means the radio is off, and solid means the radio is configured to a WiFi network.
When you restore the defaults successfully, the printer should have it's own IP address, one that is not given to it by the router, it actually has it's very own IP address. The goal is to get the Mac on the printers network temporarily so we can get into the printers Embedded Web Server.
