I am having this problem too and when I try to get to the contact support page it is a dead link - page not found. I am really annoyed that I can't even call and fight with customer service representatives because the HP website will not give me a phone number to call! I depend on this printer for my home business and now I have to go buy a new printer (definitely not an HP) - even though I have a ton of unused ink for this useless thing! Someone needs to message me ASAP about this issue!

Hi @versusveritas,
Try this number, you might have to wait on the line for a few minutes but I believe this may be most appropriate number for you 1-800-474-6836
Alternatively, you can try 855-785-2777.

Try this to fix "problem with printhead":
Open the cover (s) of the printer as if you were going to change ink.
Notice the print cartridges are in a black plastic carriage or holder.
Grasp that carriage with your thumb and opposite fingers at the top gently.
Lift up lightly on the cariage and drop it or let go. Do this a couple of times.
Close the lid. Let the printer cycle and the error should clear.
I have purchased and sold at least a dozen of these printers, most have had this error or customers could not feed paper from the top feed tray. I am very dissapointed in the quality of this printer. Before this unit came out I sold OfficeJet 6700 printers and NEVER had a problem. Every time you have to call HP it takes about 1-2 hours per defective printer to get an exchange. Then, you get the same defective model.
Always, buy the warranty from Best Buy, Staples, or whoever you buy the printer from. That way, you can at least return it to your local outlet for another.
I always use HP printers, however, I am extremely disappointed in this model.
Good luck!

Hi @Celebtate
Sorry to hear about the experience you've had with this model. Have you contacted HP Support for any replacements? Sometimes the error can be intermittent but I would definitely recommend calling Support for a replacement. Let me know if there's anything you'd like help with following up on...
Thanks, Ciara

I have 3 6830 units under 6 months old that I have to call in on. My gripe is the process take so long. If i spend an hour researching and running all the recommended tests and then call in, you guys run me through the same stuff. Then, when the first Support Tech is done, I get transferred to someone else. They put me through the same stuff. Consequently, I spend close to 2 hours per unit getting an exchange, only to get the same product with the same known issues.
I am a computer repair specialist, Microsoft Parner and almost exclusivley sell HP products and find the whole process frustratring for a printer I paid $99.95 for.
Last year I purchased at least a dozen of the 6830's and perhaps a dozen other HP computers and printers.
I just can't understand how this particular printer has so many issues.

Hi Larry, sorry about this - you shouldn't have been asked to do more troubleshooting. Can I ask, are you based in the US? Did the callagent replace all the failing printers for you?
Thanks, Ciara

I had similar problem and I bought the new ink cartridge from Costco and replaced them. The problem still persisted, so I had contacted HP Support and without any further question, they have offered to replace the printer, as this problem cannot be resolved. Sounds to me like a manufacturing defect. So, if you have this problem even after changing the Ink cartridge, you need to call up their call center 18004746836.

Bottom line: Don't recommend buying HP products and certainly don't buy from Staples where they sell service contracts that are useless. Instead buy from Best Buy where you can buy a replacement guarantee which will replace your HP junk for up to 2 years after you bought it. You don't have to deal with trying to get help from HP or through this website.
Bought this printer at Staples a year ago and paid for 2 year service contract (through Squaretrade sold by Staples) to cover "100% parts and labor, no deductions." But the contract does not cover printerhead, I was told when I reported problem to Squaretrade. Clicked on printerhead malfunction link on computerscreen which was supposed to carry me to instructions on what to do but instead took me to a survey of how happy I am with HP. Not very happy. Went to HP website and and could not get any online support via chat or phone support. All the links take me in circles.
All Staples could do was to tell me to buy a new printhead from HP and install it myself. Would be happy to do that if the HP website were intuitive and could direct me to instructions or if there were anyway to communicate with someone at HP.
Didn't know what to do. Called American Express (paid for piece of junk and contract with AmX) and they refunded what I paid for the service contract and are going to look into reversing the charge made to Staples as the contract they sold me was misrepresented. Found another 6830 at Bust Buy for $99 - less than the value of the printer cartridges I have on hand. Also unlike Staples staff Best Buy staff were very knowledgeable. Was able to get a 2 year REPLACEMENT guarantee from them that covers everything - even dropping from less than 10 feet!
Had sworn that I would never buy any other HP products in future -- becasue I have never been statisfied with any I have owned --- but this seemed to be the best deal. I hate this company.
