When I open up my desktop short cut for the printer, there is no longer and icon for the scanner - it has disappeared. How do I get it back? I uninstalled the printer, and re-installed and no change. This happened about 3 weeks ago after window had done about 11 updates. I have been having to scan everything from the scanner to a flash drive, and this is a real drag. Please help! Thank you!

Hi lorib,
Thank you for your reply.
Lets try going to start, all programs, HP, HP Officejet Pro 8600 then right click HP Scan, and put it on the desktop, or use the PSDR to uninstall and reinstall (on the final screen).
Hope this information helps, and have a great day!

Hi lorib,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that your scanner icon is lost.
I have some questions for you:
1.) What type of printer do you have? To find your printer's Product/Model Number follow instructions in this link. Finding Your HP Product Model Number.
2.) What Operating System are you using? Windows or Mac? What version?
3.) How is the printer connected wireless or usb?
Hope to hear back, and have a great day!

Replying to an email:
Printer is a Office Jet Pro 8600
Windows 7 PC
Being used via USB cable.
When I open the short cut for the printer on my computer there, is no place to scan - it seems to have gone away.
When I try to scan to my computer from the printer, I get the message " OCR application is not installed on the computer. So where did it go after all this time? I have unintalled the printer, and reinstalled to no success.
Thank you! Lori

Hi lorib,
Thank you for your reply!
I would recommend the following:
1.) Try using our HP Print and Scan Doctor.
2.) Level-three uninstall. Fatal Error 'Error 1155. Not Found.' (MSI Error 1155) Displays During Software Installation in Windo.... Please see Step one, Method one.
3.) Re-install with HP Install Wizard for Windows.
Hope this information helps, and have a great day!

Still getting no where. I have tried about everyhting, and my desktop shortcut has only 3 choices
See what's printing
Customize
Set preferences
I did get an install error 2081883401 - failed ot install serial # CN255br0rq05kd.
When I tried the "dr" it did let me scan a page from the screen, but I have no icon after that to do it again. Was it moved to another menu?
Thanks!
