Well, upon recontacting the escalation folks on this, the suggestion was to talk with tech support again. I obviously do not see that as a viable fix for what is ailing this printer. I could talk with them until I lost a few more hours of my life and the printer would still not talk SMB3 to OS X 10.10.....
I think I am officially losing hope.
Has anyone else talked with support or the escalation people? Pretty sure that this is NOT being fixed without reporting of the issue.

Unfortunately the last time this happened (where I couldn't connect to my computer share) after an MacOS update I had to replace the printer. HP never updated the firmware on my old HP8500 printer to resolve this.
Perhaps I should switch out Apple's sharing in favor of SMBUp!

And using SMBUp! isn't really an option either.. apparently there's side effects not only with inbound but outbound connections:
"This means that while connecting to servers from the Finder remains functional, the Finder won’t be able to “browse” network services and servers from the network won’t show up in the Finder’s sidebar. Be advised."
Also I tried to hold them to "Mac compatible" on the 8500 as well. They simply said "Sorry we won't be doing an update".
I'll probably get a different printer next time.
