Hey @wardle84118,
Thanks for getting back to me. I totally misread your last message and thought that you did NOT see your printer under Imaging Devices. I'm so sorry for that and I want to thank you for reminding me of the fact that you CAN see your printer under Imaging Devices. The steps that I provided still apply to our troubleshooting so I am thankful that you went ahead and ran through them regardless of my mistake. However, I am sorry to hear that they failed to resolve your issue.
I am going to have you ensure that your Windows Updates are all up to date and run a System File Checker Scan to verify if any Windows Service errors are occuring as Paint is managed strictly through the WIA Service and we know with 100% certainty that your computer is seeing your HP All-in-One scan driver.
How to Check Windows Updates:
- Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button
. In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update.
- In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
- If you see a message telling you that important updates are available, or telling you to review important updates, click the message to view and select the important updates to install.
- In the list, click the important updates for more information. Select the check boxes for any updates that you want to install, and then click OK.
Click Install updates.
Read and accept the license terms, and then click Finish if the update requires it. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Once your Windows Updates have been completed, try to scan through Paint again. If still a no go, please run the System File Checker. This checker will ensure that there are no other system issues occuring on your computer.
How to Run SFC /SCANNOW:
- Click on your Start menu
- In the 'search programs and files' box located right above Start please type CMD. You will see CMD populate at the top as a search result option. Simply right click on CMD and left click on 'Run As Administrator'
- The Command Prompt (CMD) box should now open. In this box type sfc /scannow and hit enter on your keyboard
- A Scan will now run to 100% checking your system for any violations or corruptions
If the scan prompts for your Windows disk this means that your Operating System is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled. Please let me know if the scan finds any violations or prompts for any installer disks.
Once the scan has completed, please try to scan through Paint again.
Should the issue persist, the last step would be to unlock the hidden Administrator Account on your computer to verify if the scan issues that you're experiencing are due to a corruption on your User Account or if this is the Operating System that is causing this. Okay, here is the latest.
- I have one Windows important update that will not install. It is the "Hewlette-Packard - Other hardware, printer - null print - HP officejet Pro 8610" update. The error is 80070490 and I have tried a few of the suggestions with MS fix it, but it still will not install. I'm thinking this is related to the problem we are working on.
- System SFC /scannow ran good.
Let me know what you recommend next.

Thanks for working with me. My printer is 6520. I tried the windows updates, but all the important ones were installed. I did install the other available ones. Still no luck. I tried restarting the WIA, but still nothing. I see no error messages. Thanks again for your effort.

Hello @wardle84118 and @Tyrell,
At this point I am going to have you both unlock the hidden system Administrator User Account and attempt a clean install under there as I believe both of you are experiencing Operating System issues. Can you please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Uninstall Drivers:
- Click on the Start menu
- Select All Programs
- Select the HP folder
- Select your HP printer
- Select Uninstall
Follow through any onscreen prompts to complete the uninstall process. If you have a USB Cable attached to the computer from the printer, please disconnect that cable now.
Step 2: Unlock Admin Account:
- Click on the Start menu
- In the 'search programs and files' box located right above Start type CMD. CMD will populate as a search result up above. Right click CMD and select Run as Administrator.
- When the Command Prompt (CMD) window opens please type net user administrator /active:yes and hit enter on your keyboard.
- Close the Command Prompt window.
- Click on your Start menu and select the arrow beside 'shutdown'. Please choose Restart.
- When the computer comes back on you should now have the option to log in to an account named Administrator with no password. Click on that account to log into it. If the computer automatically logs into your main User Account, select the Start menu, click the arrow beside Shutdown and choose 'log off'. Now, choose the Administrator Account to log into.
- The Administrator User Account will take a few moments to configure itself when it is logged into for the first time.
Step 3: Install the Printer:
- Under the Administrator Account, please install the drivers for your HP Printer. @wardle84118here is your HP Officejet driver package: HP Officejet Pro 8615 Software and Drivers and @Tyrell here is your HP Photosmart driver package: HP Photosmart 6520 Software and Drivers. Please click the link for the driver package that matches your printer and allow the driver to Download.
- Run the download when prompted
- Follow any onscreen steps to reinstall the printer.
- If using a USB Cable connection, only plug in the USB Cable when the installation screen prompts you to.
Once the installation is complete, please test scanning again. Should everything work fine, please Log Out of the Administrator User Account and log back into your main User Account. The Software and Drivers for your printer will carry over to your main User Account. Please test scanning again.

X-23, did you get my last responce with images included? I have done everything you have recommended and I still have the issue with not being able to scan to my computer. Do you have any other recommendations or are we at a dead end?

I'm sorry, I did not see any such post with images included. Very strange! I am sorry to hear that unlocking the System Administrator Account failed to resolve your issue.
I would suggest running the HP Print and Scan Doctor under the System Administrator Account that I had you unlock and install your printer under. I'm curious to see if the Print and Scan Doctor also fails on driver issue under this other User Account.
Have you tried to install this HP Officejet on another computer just to rule out the printer 100%?
Please let me know if the HP Print and Scan Doctor has any issues running on that new User Account.

I haverun print and scan doctor under admin account and I get an error on Driver Check when doing the Fix Scan option. I have done the restart and it then says it cannot fix the issue. I have done this several times prior to staring this post and is why I started the post. This happen to the HP printer I just replaced, so this is the second printer this is occuring on. I have also uninstalled everything associated with the old printer prior to installing this new one. Any other ideas?

Thank you for offering more assistance. I was hoping I could just attach the files, but looks like I have to cut and paste. I am limited to 100,000 characters, so here is the PSDRCLIENT file. I will put the server file in the next post. Any additional information would be AWESOME! As a side note, I can scan to a network folder and I can scan to an e-mail. Just cannot scan to computer due to HP Scan error saying it cannot find the device.
