What is the model of the printer? And if there is a wireless icon or button on it, press it and what happens?

This user manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02008063 says, to check the status of the wireless:
a. On the product control panel, press the Setup (that look like a wrentch) button
b. Use the arrow buttons to select the Reports menu, and then press the OK button.
c. Use the arrow buttons to select the Config report option, and then press the OK button.
You might want just power cycle the printer, and if that doesn't help, turn off and back on the wireless (hold down the wireless button for 5 seconds to turn off, and press once to turn on).

I can't get the screen to stay on long enough... it shows "initializing " ... then the screen shuts off before I can use the wrench setting ??? is there a re-boot for printers?? I have turned it on and off a million times today and now it won't even make a photo copy 😞

That message gets displayed if you remove and reinstall the toner cartridge (supply). It's basically saying the cartridge is not new. Should not cause any problem.
