HO Deskjet 2540
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)
Hi I bought this printer on Black Friday at Walmart last year thinking I would be moving and needed my own printer. Well I'm just now needing the printer so everything is still in the box new. My posting is for this reason. My son is leaving for college and needs a printer. I saw Hp printer 3636 on sale at Walmart for $49.99 and I know I paid more for my 2540 so I was trying to decide which printer I wanted to keep for myself. I went to Amazon website and typed Hp 2540. Price was like $79 something but in parentheses says " printer discontinued by manufacturer". Hmmm. I also saw on another site that 2540 was "replaced" by 3630. I'm wondering if something is wrong with the printer I bought last November? Reading the words"discontinued" doesn't sound good and im wondering since the printer is new, still in box, could I trade the printer in to HP for the replacement printer? I couldn't find anymore information as to why my 2540 was discontinued. I don't know if the printer is still useable. I don't want to use it if it's going to cause problems. Uggghh. What to do? I probably should just call the HP customer support number and ask these questions.??
In the meanwhile I'm going to buy my son the one on sale at Walmart.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

What "Discontinued by Manufacturer" meant was the printer is no loger in production.  It doesn't mean that the printer is defective.

Why don't you try to set up and use the printer?  The ink cartridges used is still in production and will be so for a couple of years.

Be sure to install the FULL feature software so that you can get the best out of your printer.

Hope that helps!
