HP DeskJet 3772 All-in-One Printer

When I go to print the PC tells me that the printer is out of paper.

There's paper in the printer.

The display on the printer says there's paper in the printer.

Hi @bummerguy,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your printer's display shows that there's paper, but your PC or print job indicates that it's out of paper, you may have a communication issue or a problem with the paper sensors. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and fix this issue:

1. Check Paper Tray and Paper

  • Ensure the paper is correctly placed in the paper tray and is aligned properly. Paper should not be jammed or misaligned.
  • Confirm that the paper type and size in the tray match the settings on your PC and the printer.
  • Remove the paper from the tray, straighten it, and reload it into the tray. Ensure the paper stack is not too high and that it is not sticking together.

2. Inspect for Paper Jams

  • Open all accessible areas of the printer (paper tray, rear access, and any other compartments) to check for any paper jams or obstructions.
  • If you find any jammed paper, carefully remove it. Be sure to remove all bits of paper to prevent future jams.

3. Restart the Printer and PC

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Restart your computer to ensure it is properly communicating with the printer.

4. Check Printer Settings

Verify Printer Settings:

  • On your PC, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your printer and select Printer Properties.
  • Ensure the paper size and type settings match the paper loaded in the tray.

Check Printer Preferences:

  • In the printer preferences dialog, verify that the paper source is set to the correct tray.

5. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

Update Drivers:

  • Go to the printer manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
  • Install the updated drivers on your PC.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
