We have a 4001dne that upon boot immediately flashes both ready and attention lights as if it is in mid-setup or initialization. I can then run the the Easy Start, but it fails to print the activation code saying there is a problem with the printer and to follow the prompts on the lcd screen. Wellllll, on the LCD screen is just says 'Enter the pairing code', which, as stated earlier, fails to print. So, I did the OOBE reset nonsense several times and can get no further than this. It does get an IP on the network, I tried with USB cable, without USB cable, no luck. Nowhere does it indicate an error # or any other sort of hardware problem. Super not fun. Any thoughts on this is greatly appreciated.
And may I say, who came up with this activation code printing setup process? Holy cats that's super awful!!!! Way to make setting up a printer a miserable experience. My vote is to do away with this as soon as you can, HP.

Failure to retrieve the pairing code indicates that the system could not contact the HP Cloud service. This could be due to a temporary issue at HP, a bad gateway address programmed into the printer, or a firewall could be blocking access. Are you able to access the EWS of the printer by typing the IP address of the printer into the address bar of a browser? If you cannot access the EWS there is a setting issue with the printer. If you can access the EWS then look at the gateway address that is entered and check your firewall settings. In IT managed environments, services like HP cloud are often blocked and your IT department will need to fix that.
