The new lines have a "political power saving mode" that stops the printer from printing after 8 hours to save energy. BUT it doesn't shut off the printer, nor does it give any notice, just doesn't print. The power button still is on, the only resolution is to power it off and back on EVERY MORNING.
1. We should have the ability to decide how we want to set it to save power.
2. If it is powering off to save electricity, why is the machine still on? Why do I have to shut it off first, instead of just turn it on?
3. If you are going to force this, shouldn't there be a notice when I try to print that it is in power saving mode, instead of just not printing? And a way to turn it back on through my computer, instead of having to get up and physically trek to the machine every day?
4. A call to support didn't get any help.
We sell alot of printers, this is a huge problem to have with all our clients. Telling them they will have to dedicate someone to manually restart every printer every morning is not a great selling point.

How are you connecting these printers, USB or Network? If network, what type of port are you using? We have had issues with drivers utilizing WSD ports that will never wakeup the printer until a power cycle. Using a standard TCP/IP port yields better results.

I'm also having the same problem as well with this same HP printer model. I exchanged the first printer when I saw this problem. I'm currently on the second one and seeing the same offline problem. Have only had each printer for less than 1 month. Will be going to different printer brand if HP doesn't fix this.

HP indicated that this likely was an one-off issue and not anything widespread. I am scheduled to have a replacement sent to me, which I had already had no confidence would be a fix to the problem. Glad to see your response and know that a replacement didn't work for you. The fix that they proposed initially was to turn it off at the end of day, or turn off after printing and turn back on when ready to use. This is not my expectation of how a business class printer should be operated. Hoping to not get into the continuous loop of having replacement after replacement sent out.

I'm having the same issue and with this unit having a fax connected kind of makes it worthless since it falls asleep and someone has to be at the office 24/7 just to be able to wake up the printer to get a fax!
This will be the last HP anything that my business sells!

I did a hard reset on mine and it started working. When I initially set it up, I used the HP cloud management solution. After I did hard reset, I didn't use it second time around. Guessing one of those fixed it, either the hard reset or not using HP cloud management.
